don't read this if you hate microsoft...

Correction not needed.

Firstly, Firefox has a market percentage of about 5-8%. Together with all the other browsers they make about 15%. So all the other 85% percent use only IE. (not 95%, satissfied?)

Of course, some of them have heard about tabbed browsing, but not all of them downloaded Firefox to see it in action, cause if they did, they would never go back.

It's just a blurry idea in their mind, assuming they heard about it in the first place. All the others who did not, will just fall in MS marketing tactics and believe it's an "innovation".

And you do not get it, open your minds people, nothing MS offers in Windows is free. You pay a lot of money for Windows, no? How is it free then?

Tabbed browsing will be an argument to UPGRADE (the magic word) to IE7 and to Vista. It makes MS seem innovative for less tech-sawy users. You have to understand MS makes most of his $$ from less tech-sawy users.

Even if MS will offer IE7 as stand-alone, to install on XP, the idea in their little heads will be born: "There is innovation in Vista, in IE7, in all that comes with Vista".

So they will upgrade. I'ts really herd-management for MS.

77% of you guys here still use IE :P

Somone above said microsoft stole and then bought software well , i think (correct me if i m wrong here ) didn't apple buy a small software company that had audio player application and turned it into itunes.

as for security with windows , i have never had a virus infect my computer since i have installed XP , as for stability of XP i have never had the OS crash , applications have crashed but OS kept on going.

I love mac os x btw , use it whenever i can at work would have switched to mac if not for the non - availabilty of apps i need

People are sheep and always will be.

Remember... a person is smart... people are dumb, ignorant and will almost always do what everyone else does.

Amen to that!

Most people who use FireFox or some other browser, still use IE as well. I'm one of them.

Some sites will just not work properly unless you use IE... period.

So of that 15%, how many use both??? You don't know that number, but I would venture to say at least half. So that's roughly 93.5%... Close enough.

Now go take a statistics class so you can understand that your numbers and mine can say whatever we want them too... it's all in the selective inclusion, or in your case, exclusion of data they may be relevant.

77% of you guys here still use IE :P

AHHH!!!! See what I mean! ;)

Ahh... I'm letting myslef get dragged into the off topic realm!!!

So they will upgrade. I'ts really herd-management for MS.

Duh!!! That's what I said earlier.. people are sheep.

It didn't change my opinion about Microsoft. The main reason why 95% of people use Windows is because it is a monopoly. IMO, this person was just stating the obvious.

#306207

Nice to see that someone actually appreciates Microsoft's work.. As Lou said, YOU and only YOU choose what OS you use. There's way too much immaturity here at A-S sometimes. For the love of god, let people make up their own mind about Mac/WIndows/Linux. Make love, not war.

M$ by the legal definition is NOT a monopoly. Well not anymore anyway.

They have competition. Their competitors would like you to believe that M$ is a monopoly so you will feel sympathetic to the "little guy" and buy their products instead.

It's a classic David and Goliath sales tactic.

It's called Penis envy... M$ has the biggest johnson (OS) around and they all would kill to be just as big. ;)

We're both wrong. For the month of July IE6 usage was 67.9%. Firfox and Moz combined was 22.4%

Of course, some of them have heard about tabbed browsing, but not all of them downloaded Firefox to see it in action, cause if they did, they would never go back.

I'm sorry but that's an assumption, Not everyone prefers (Insert browser here) over FF.

And you do not get it, open your minds people, nothing MS offers in Windows is free.

What I really meant to say is there is no additional cost for IE -

Tabbed browsing will be an argument to UPGRADE (the magic word) to IE7 and to Vista. It makes MS seem innovative for less tech-sawy users. You have to understand MS makes most of his $$ from less tech-sawy users.

Again you make an assumption. If MS announces it's next browser version will include Tabed Browsing, How is that a scam? Also, MS doesn't make most of it's money from less tech savvy users, It's corporations that make them big backs - I don't think they're any less tech savvy than you and I. Your basing this all on an yet to be announced marketing strategy from MS.

Hmm, you have a point there..It didn't cross my mind..

So even more people use IE then!

BTW, you know why some sites need IE? Because IE is the only browser that doesn't respect the W3C standards and is full of bugs. Why is that? I don't know ask the IE development team. I'm sure they had a lot of budget on their hands.

But some things were made this way intentionaly. What did MS hope to gain by not respecting W3C's box model I don't know, maybe more$$? Maybe "help the user"?

So various "hacks" had to be put in place by developers to make their content display as it should have in the first place. That lead to a lot of stress and pain from their side. Did MS care? Of course not, after all they are "innovating" and "helping the user".

BS... Safari is far worse at complying with W3C standards than the current version of IE6 is.

Older versions of IE were worse, but that is all in the past.

IE is also the only browser that natively supports Active-X controls/content. That's the reason I have to use it.

And why do you keep throwing in $$$ all the time? M$ makes ZERO $$$ from IE... IT'S FREE!!! Even for people who DON'T RUN WINDOWS!!!

#306217

TYTYTY!! i have been arguing with people for years on this point. you're the first person besides me i've ever heard say that. go rj, go rj!! :)

Im closing this because:

1. Your thread title is not informative on purpose.

2. This is only going to become a flame war (it has already started to light up)

3. We have had such discussions before, people just cant handle it. Really sad.

4. I cant stand fanboyism; i dont want to see them come gather here.

I cant believe the guys is using MAC as an acronym, is it really so hard to do some research before writing an "article"?
