I have my own opinions on that article but I will not discuss them here simply because this thread will be closed soon. This forum's members are too immature to have a knowledgeable discussion.

for some odd reason i agree with this guy. he isn't that biased even though he's pro microsoft. good guy that has a very good point. everything he said is right. although some bit disagrees against my opinions though.
only problem between me and him is that he is not fully aware of what monopoly can do, and he didn't realize the fact that longhorn is a very procrastinated future product that microsoft didn't take seriously until the last moment.

I can't believe how an article like that can change people's beliefs. It's not even an article, just a re-post of some old ideas.
Blaming the high percent of Windows computers for it's security flaws it's an old and lame trick . It's true, much more malware is written for Windows, BUT it's also because it's sooo very easy to write something for Windows. Take that into account too. Even a child can do it.
The entire "article" is just a lame rant from a bored fanboy.
I'm not taking anybody's side. The only reason I hate MS is because they became insanely rich from stealing (in the first place, and then buying) other people's software and idea's, while I work my ass for a few bucks.
And I hate MS because in spite of not delivering one single good idea or software OF THEIR OWN (and that in spite of having an enormous research budget) they advertise themselves as being the company that revolutionized the PC and put so much accent on their CREATIVE powers.
Bill is just sooo pissed that everybody thinks of him as the drop-out who made millions by stealing other ideas. He wanted to prove otherwise in Vista, but so far I haven't seen it. I have seen however the old idea copy&paste again.
Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY would switch to MAC is it wasn't so darn expensive. Once a majority is reached, the others will follow, like it happened with MS.
That article has some valid points. We learnt all about monopoly in the economics unit of my social studies class in high school but from Microsoft's history, it was Gates who capitalized on an opportunity of a lifetime and did play it pretty smart. However the term monopoly is kind of hard to associate with a situation such as this because in the world of computers, companies that develop software (and hardware/accessories as well) want to make their product popular and profit from it, and so they develop it for a PC because as the article said, "More than 95 percent [of the] computers in the world use one form of Windows OS or another." (I think this statistic may be exaggerated/inaccurate, but it gets the point across) If you were a small software company, and are market oriented, why would you want to develop something for such a small market (eg. Linux) where you would not be able to make the most out of it?
Even look at the trends today, the iPod was made extremely popular and is the most popular digital music player today. Just walk in a computer store and see all the third party accessories that have been made for it.
However, I agree with rjohnstone's point when he said, "M$ is not as squeaky clean as the writer of the article would like us to believe". In the past I've seen documentaries regarding the whole antitrust issue and Microsoft. According to Netscape, Microsoft sent them threatening emails in the past saying that the Netscape browser/communicator would go down and Internet Explorer is superior (or something along those lines.) Who am I to know if those emails were true or false, Netscape might have just been looking to protect their interests.

This is the issue with this topic... it's not about an OS.
It's about M$ as a company.

There is this thing ladies and gentlemen, called choice. We all have a right to choose. We can choose Windows, we can choose Macintosh, we can choose Linux, we can even choose purple.
To me, one person, no matter who they are isn't going to change how I feel about anything. I have to choose how I feel about it.
The only people that care what OS you use are yourself, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates. "Make up your own damn mind." Don't let anyone tell you which OS is better. Figure it out for yourself, think what you will.

I've never read a Microsoft article in which MS hailed Tabed Browsing an Inovation on it's part (I could be wrong). Incase you haven't heard Firefox now has the Majority of users across it's various platforms, So no, 95 % of computer users won't think that MS created the concept of Tabed Browsing (They already use Firefox). MS has always offered IE for free with it's OS - So they really aren't making loads of cash from it.

M$ didn't force anyone to buy their products... WE CHOOSE to do so.
If your only option is to use an M$ product because it's the only one available, then M$ has done their job as a corporate entity.
How they do that job is the topic at hand and if you want to talk deceptive business practices, open your eyes. EVERY company out their does it to one degree or another... it is US, the buyer, that ALLOWS them to get away with it in the first place.
Anyone ever watch an infomercial for realestate schemes or hell cookware even, they make M$ look like puppies.
