I Need Advice

I found a great deal for a powerbook G4 17" for $1650, how would I convince my parents to buy it for me. I have tried various things, like showing them the original price of the computer, specs etc. But they are relentless in their pursuit of not allowing me unexplainable bliss. It is at I price that I can afford and my 16th birthday is coming up in a couple weeks, what should I do???? :(:(:( HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!! :(:(:(

Your parents would buy you a $1600 computer for your birthday? Im 16, and my parents give me diddly-squat. They even refused to give me a cake.

Anyway, do you NEED a new computer (ie. Your current computer is 3+ years old)? Cause you can always say you need it for school, because your computer is too old to run the new software. Also, explain to them all the great things THEY can do it. ;)

But jeez, dont expect sympathy from us. Why dont you ask them for an iBook. Their much cheaper, and great PCs.

suck it up, and live your life..

1) Bag Groceries during the Summer 2)Save the money, 3) Convince them to cough up the balance.

#25068

sigh.. kids nowadays, and all their demands..

anyway, here're the tactics:

1) Make alot of noise about it.

2) Compare it to others, and bring up the good points.

3) Tell them you need it. Come up with excus... umm, reasons ;).

4) Get a job and make some money yourself too!

5) "Ammee jee, mayn 2 maheeno kay liay kitchen may aap ki khidmat karoon gaa"

go for the 12" model ;)

and do some work, getting $500 yourself might persuade them, thats why i'm sitting at a laptop now.

I also needed it for university

okay, taha's last point confused me.

now, we all know how the 17" powerbook is a waste of space, so why not try for something more reasonable, like a 15" or something? i'm not sure what dimensions apple makes powerbooks in, but take it down a notch. cuz a 17" laptop? it defeats the purpose.

#25078

no it doesn't, i would love a big monitor on a laptop! the portability is awesome, but the only places i take it are around the house! if your using it as a desktop replacement, a big monitor is fine.... now if you do a ton of traveling, thats were miniscual laptops come in.

#25080

whoah... I didn't even notice it said POWERBOOK 17" is what you are aiming for.

However beautiful the display is, IT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE. 'nuff said.

I'd say, go for the 15" (standard), or the 12"(compactness). You can connect both to an external monitor and reach amazing resolutions that way. So you actually get both - good resolution and portability.

i only move my laptop about once a month, but i wish i'd gone for a 12" powerbook instead of my 14" toshiba anvil.

If you're only going to be about the house, save some more for a cinema display and powermac (IMO)

well, you could just stick the 12" pB cable into a beautiful Cinema Display and use that instead of getting a pMac. This way you get portability plus a beautiful display..

None of you know what your talking about,

tell your dad about the resell value.

Its the worlds first 17 inch laptop, and its made by apple (=style) surely to become a classic with tremendous resell value, not some sorry ass dell or gateway with 5$ resell.

Own a piece of history, etc, etc,

first step in starting my own company, etc

If they still say no, get up and go to a minors job agency, work in a factory at night (triple pay for supervised minors) counting bolts or whatever for 20 days, and thats it, you have a new apple laptop.

I can get the 17" and a 23" cinema display for $3000, but I don't gots the cash son. :P:D And about resale value, I was thinking of buying it for $1650 and selling it for around $2600-2800.

Read my post again.

#25094

i worked nights at the post office over christmas, they didn't give me triple pay, or even double... grr

Made me feel like sh## permanantly too.

Is what it'll be worth in 5 years time really worth paying the extra for some imovable portable?

#25097

What's always helped me in my new pc components is having siblings ;) If you do have them, maybe say, i'll give such and such my old pc or something along those lines. If you have a large family, throw around the phrase "man i'd really love to have a powerbook" maybe they will all come together to chip in :D Thats about all i can offer, but soon enough i'll be blessed with my own ibook in the coming months B)

this always work with my mom and dad.

first be a good kid and make some money of your own. I usually sell some designs or something, and tell them that with this new computer, you can make more money, or get a cool online job that requires this computer.

then think of other reasons to make it seem so valuable. besure to tell them they have benefits too like u wont ever bother them, and, tell them that you will pay them back after u get a job or with the money you will "generate" from the computer :D

if that doesnt work, then play the lotto.

#25137

oh, the excuses children come up with these days..

Tell your parents that you have embarressing photos of them, and that their bosses will get them in their mailboxes unless a Powerbook is under the christmas tree.

Or tell them you wont love them anymore if they dont give you a power book.

My parents said that they never wanted me anyway. :(
