No kidding... I was being a sarcastic smart ass.
Be careful when making blanket statements.
I know my grandmother is one of the many exceptions to the rule. She's a tough lady. The fact that she's 84 and shows no signs of slowing down proves that all things don't apply to all people.
I have another little intersting tid bit of info that the American Cancer Society will not make available to the public.
Early in my career I used to work at the ACS AZ chapter as an assitant shipping manager. (1993/94)
While I was working there, more than 50% of the employees were smokers, that included the director. We had to walk across the street to have a smoke. No smoking allowed anywhere on the premisis of course.
It is also common knowledge that genetics has a lot to do with whether you will develop lung cancer from smoking. You are either prone to it or you are not. If you are, then your risk level increases dramticaly with every cigarette.
Emphysema is the only true disease directly linked to smoking.
Non-smokers simply do not get Emphysema. Don't confuse Emphysema with Bronchitis... similar symptoms, but Bronchitis will not kill you, just make you wish it did.
There are other tobacco related diseases as you mentioned above. The list you provided above includes chewing tobacco related diseases as well.
Talk about a gross filthy habit.
I'm not saying smoking isn't bad for you, it is. But there are many other factors that figure into it.
Yes, I feel better now that I have quit. But I have to wait 12 years before I know if there is any permanent lung damage. So far all x-rays and MRI's show no damage. 1 1/2 years down... 10 1/2 to go.
That's how long it takes for every cell in your lungs to be regenerated.
