And, amitsaraf32, susumu's font is smooth, and Mac-like. Yours is like max cleartype font.
one word - Styler ?
Would be interesting to compare Cleartype settings here : my Cleartype Contrast is set to around 1500. I believe the max contrast is 2200.

No, you don't understand. Something was keeping me from using display properties. I've been going without display properties for a long time. His instructions just helped uncover the hidden settings in display properties.
Also, I paid for styler toolbar, and I use WIndowBlinds.

Styler can change only the brightness (GAMMA) of ClearType but in susumu's screenshoots

Amitsaraf32, your screenshot/signature is the way the font looks like for everyone using a Windows PC. If you do want to use HandelGotDLig to the full effect, either disable ClearType (but leave Standard Font Smoothing Selected under the 'effects' pane of the Appearance tab of Display Properties) or, try using the Handel Gothic Objectbar font (Styler is an easy way to change fonts within Visual Styles)
i actually asked hills-roppongi once, and he gave me a link to this thingy named ttf gasp. just drag the font to ttfgasp.exe and install the font. and you need to disable cleartype too.

I've noticed the fonts for Hills' screenshots are the same as susumu's, etc. and he uses TTFGASP. Personally though, I've tried and it makes no difference on my system. I believe the font smoothness (and thickness, you notice that their fonts are slightly thicker) are achieved by a font editing program. No amount of cleartype or GASP will get you those results IMO. I use Font Creator but my skill isn't that good at thickening fonts without display anomalies. Furthermore, while combining Japanese + western fonts, I encountered quite a few websites (in Japanese) that detail how to merge/thicken/smooth fonts but my Japanese isn't good enough to understand the details yet. All these sites edit the fonts using a font editor (TTEdit and OTEdit).
Do you deem it wierd that all of the people with the smooth fonts are Japanese?
Well I think a lot of Japanese like desktop customization and it comes naturally that they have these fonts and here's why. A lot of us who use Asian fonts need to combine glyths from western fonts (such as HandelGotD) with the asian font of our choice so as to display both alphabets and asian characters nicely. Using just a plain HandelGotD font for example renders other non-western characters with ugly fonts. After combining, they might as well make the fonts look nicer.
Update: I've gotten my HandelGotD to look a lot more like the versions shown in the screenshot. This involves adding a GASP record to the target font (using TTFGASP) and bolding the font with a font editor (I use High-Logic Font Creator).
First, run HandelGotD through TTFGASP. Take the new GASP'ed font and if you're using Font Creator, bold it with a setting of Bold(35, 28). Then, install the font and enable "Standard" font smoothing (instead of ClearType). You should start seeing some differences.

I use the Soulless Fonts without ClearType Smoothing and am _very_ happy.

Okay, I just tested out some stuff and in fact it actually was TTFGasp that made my fonts look so smooth. The smoothing had nothing to do with the Soulless Fonts. Try this:
Turn OFF Cleartype, but turn ON Standard Edge Smoothing.
Then, go to your C:WindowsFonts Folder and also open up the directory in which you put TTFGasp. Then, from your Fonts Folder, don't copy anything, but directly drag the fonts you wanna have smoothed onto the TTFGasp.exe - You'll see, Windows will update and your fonts will look just like on a Mac, very smooth, eye-friendly, etc.
The only problem is that, after a Restart, Windows will restore all the fonts - And I haven't found a way around that yet.
If anyone finds a workaround so that we could use these super-smooth fonts all the time, I'd be one happy person.
