[HELP] Weather for SysStats stopped working

I got the same problem but its because of my firewall.

Does someone know which port this widget use ?

#267021

Sysstats uses XML feed from the weather.com to get the data. That's just port 80 which you use for browsing. I am guessing if u can access the web, then sysstats shouldn't have any probs with getting the data.

For those guys having problems with it showing %s, check to see if the meter is still installed in the configs. Also make sure Avedesk is not blocked by a software firewall like Zonealarm. I too had denied acess to Avedesk by mistake in firewall and went mad trying to figure what was wrong. I founfd problem when I was looking at the programs section in Zonealarm. :)

Nope, no filrewall, nothing. Tried everything. I have now completely scrubbed my drive C from any

AveDesk, AquaDock, Object Dock, and Sysstats. Did extensive search including hidden and system files. Cleaned the registry (nothing there to begin with). After a clean install of AveDesk, Sysstats, and TheWeather, I now get a fatal error consistently. Here is what I do:

- From scratch, extracted AveDesk12 to C:Avedesk12

- From Scratch, extracted SysStats 253 to C:AveDesk12

- Start AveDesk and open ControlPanel

- Drag TheWeather.aveinst into Control Panel.

- I get a picture (nice but I think it's a jpg...) for about 5 seconds

- The picture goes away and I can see the weather docklet but only with %s, etc.

- A few seconds later, I get an exception error and report with the following info:

Error Signature:

AppName: avedesk.exe AppVer: 1.2.0.0

ModName: commeters.spl Mod/Ver: 1.0.1.6 Offset: 00024e69

From the exception Information screen:

Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000

Record: 0x0.....0 Address: 0x0000000002004e69

Is this part of our problem or is it something else?

I want to know if

1) You are on a broadband connection ?

2) Running Win XP ? SP2?

3) I hope you know that the sysstats has to go into the docklets folder.

I also read somewhere about updating the XML Parser from Microsoft's website. It seemed to solve some problems with some people with weather issues.

Also Judge gave me a version of Systats which solved problems I had of configs losing parts. Maybe you should try that out to. Get it from here

http://webpages.charter.net/joolsie/assets/SysStats2.5.zip

Hope this helps.

Bingo! The XML Parser update from Micro$oft did the trick. (Yes, I do have a broadband connection, I am running XP SP2, and I do know where to put the sysstats stuff.. :) The SysStats 2.5 link you provided did not make a difference. )

I installed the following from the Microsoft support web site:

MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Services)

After I installed this service pack, everything started to work perfectly. Now I am running Avedesk12, SysStats v253, and all the different weather docklets! All works smoothly again.

Thanks for the XML Parser hint! Good luck everybody who also has problems.

Just wanted to cover all the bases. Maybe you should post the link to the XML parser so that other people can get it too. But it really strange that it would work on one computer with it and work on another without too..

Yea, really strange. Maybe the windows auto update service has updated some PC's with a bad XML version but not users who have auto update disabled? (mine is enabled).

You can search in the support knowledge base http://support.microsoft.com/ for

"MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Services)"

then click on

"How to obtain the latest Microsoft XML 4.0 service pack"

and then under "How to obtail, click kthe link:

Can someone else who had these problems confirm that this fixes the problem for you as well?

#267285

So is this a Windows issue or a SysStats issue, because I just used the newer version of AveDesk and SysStats and it started to work again. I didn't download any XML parser from MS. Is the new XML parser included with tne new version of SysStats then?

#267529

Stop working a week ago, in my case xoap.weather.com is sending me a big N/A most part of the day, same case in the website, being pissed off I'm looking how to get the systats widgets working with other source, eg my city is current displaying perfectly in rssweather.com. I´m looking the xpath syntax and bla bla bla... if I get it working will let know.

FIIIIIIIIXED

well, i dont want this to sound boring or stupid, but i wanna thank all of you guys , because you helped me with all this sysstat-weather-going-crazy-thing

i was really mad at this , and well i had the idea about this was maybe a xml problem.. even i SAW the link to download the package that was shown before one week ago.. but i thought "nahh im using sp1 so this wont work"

what i did was download the files separately (the only one i didnt download was the one for sp2 )

then .. everything worked again...

something weird was that the weather config i made (not released) wasnt working , so i had to make it again , then it worked... maybe it got corrupted.....

again.. i thank you guy for spending time here.. helping and trying (all together) to find an answer..

ps.... now that i installed avedesk 1.2 and sysstats 2.5 ... (in order to fix the problem) , now that i installed the patches available at microsoft... im having a weird bug or something.. in my sysstats configs.. i mean:

i use simple clock... now.. when windows starts .. it just shows %s % % %s , (this is not exactly what it shows, i dont remember right now) so i have to load it again.. an then it works..

any way to fix this??? i dont want to pm judge , maybe he is too busy... so i dont want to bother...

thanks for any help..

EDIT:: i fixed the simple clock problem....

My Weather Desklet stopped working....... since I updated to SysStats 2.5.4

It gives me SysStatscom.dll error..... see the attached pic.

#269230

Even I had the problem. Reinstalling took care of that. I am not sure why it happened though.

#269335

I think the msxml.dll file might have gotten corrupted somehow. Reinstalling it should take care. I can't comment much on the internals of Sysstats, but I think Judge might be using the XML parser that comes with Windows.

#269337

I tried even reinstalling.... but in vein.... :(

#269386

I'm using ObjectDock Plus 1.05.506, and it's weather docklet stopped working for me recently. Just booted up one day and it said it 'couldn't retrieve weather information'. Any ideas? I've tried a few of the things in this thread and none have worked :(

#269403

Do any of you guys use the timezoneabulator config too? I'm just wondering if weather.com has barred your IP addresses.

I'm using this as well as the widescapeweather port for AD. They both stopped working yesterday and just displayed the blue question mark like when you start a new desklet for SysStats. I would then try to load a config file and AD would crash completely, no error message at all. Sometimes one of the configs will load and just display the %s, but when I right click on the desklet and click "configure" it crashes once again. I tried doing a fresh install of AD and even with SysStats 2.5.4 with no luck.

I will try those XML fixes from MS to see if they help any.

*edit*

w00t! XML fix posted on page 2 fixed the problem.

seems this it is my case (I'm have the xml parser update) but is very strange, is not weather.com a site of massive use?

Progress (trying to get widescapeweather for systats working): hard and weird solution, i know nothing about xml, there is a xpath tutorial from the systats docs and a nice app xphat explorer; as xoap does not work for me, I'm using wunderground.com as source in the weater meter: http://www.wunderground.com/auto/rss_full/...tions/80210.xml (citycode.xml)

and editing the xphats parses in the overlays. The xml:

jggame... it is sad that the microsoft xml update didnt work for you duh... nice job you are doing trying to optain the weather from another site.. keep on going man... i encourage you to do it..

this is for judge, man.. i fixed the problem posted in this thread... i already read all the 6 pages in the avedesk bug thread , they have made a question 3 times i without any help.. maybe you can help me...

my problem is.. my weather config now , when i restart windows.. o just turn off - turn on my machine ... my weather config gets corrupted... it does show the temperature but now it doesnt show the icon.. so when i go to the configuration tab to see what happened , the "ENTIRE" image entry is erased!!!

i mean... when i change the corrupted config for the back up config.. it works... and its configuration goes like this:

composite overlay :(

edit: using last sysstats config available and avedesk 1.2 (windows sp1 p4 2.4 ghz)

#269552

Even I used to have the same problems. It was not only with weather configs, but with others too including LHC, Dashboard World clock, etc. At every restart configs would just start to loose various parts like icons, clock hands . Judge know about this problem and is working on it.

PS- After I upgraded to 2.5.4, the problems have reapperared.

#269631

Not sure what's going on here so I need some clarity. SysStats 2.5.3 should have fixed the issue with loosing parts on a restart. Did it?

SysStats 2.5.4 should not have re-introduced the problem. Are you saying that it has?

Can you check the creation date for SysStatsCOM.dll? It should be Friday, March 25, 2005, 10:44:34 PM.

Do you have another version of SysStatsCOM.dll anywhere? Do a search for it in the your AveDesk folder. If you use ObjectDock search for it there too.

I am still having problems with Longhorn clock. I just now saw that it doesn't have the calender background and month image. It seems to happen only the configs are in showcase mode.

Yep, the Creation date is March 25. I also searched other folders, but there are none other in the Avedesk folder. There is a SysStatsCOM.dll in my Objectdock folder which I haven't updated. But I am not using any Sysstats configs on Objectdock. So I thought that it not be upgraded. Do you think its causing the problem ? That's seem pretty odd. But I am going to upgrade them and see if that solves the problems.

#269801

Windows has a way of finding DLLs that implement COM interfaces. SysStatsCOM.dll is one of those. Windows could be finding the wrong one.

Replaced it. It seems to working fine now. Thanks Judge. It was driving me nuts.

#270137

well judge.... again.. ive solved... all my systats problems thanks to you :) ... in the systats bug forum.. you placed a link to donwload a new version of systats... now im not having the "for unknown-reasons-some-configs-get screwed" problem

everything is working perfect.. thanks... :)

#270939

I'm not sure if I read my solution here, but i have found one for me!

Sry for my bad englisch, it's not my default language!

Ok lets go: Go to your Avedesk Controllpanel, there u select "options", then "global options".

In the last tab u found a entry which have to be like "Save configuration every time avedesk is closed" or so :).

If u turn off this and save your desk manually, it will work every time you restart or somthing else!

Hope i could help

#271973
