Are the Aqua Apps working for you?

The reason I don't do what you are suggesting is that by doing so, you can't fully duplicate the EXACT LOOK AND FEEL of the OS X GUI. And that is my ultimate goal.

I think that wasn't what he meant...

He probably meant this (that's how i understood it):

Why don't you use existing wblinds/XP APIs/engines to paint widgets that CAN be painted using them and leave just the stuff that CAN'T to your activex ctls...

Orcinus

Edit: Cassiel's probably asking why aren't you leveraging readily available resources in your apps instead of writing custom controls...

That's exactly what I mean - thanks! :D

My english is not so good ...

Theres something weird with my icons. I dont know if this is because its just a beta and you are still working out bugs, or if its just my computer. Check it out.

finder.jpg

Click this to see what it really looks like. Dont look at the above image for an accurate representation.

As you can see the folder icons have some weird blue junk around them, and when they are selected its even worse. I am really hoping to eventually use your amazing finder as my main finder, and ditch explorer all together. That would be just awsome. Obviously a few things still need to be fixed, granted its just a pre-release of the final. Jef, in your final release of this please do not have the title say Aqua Finder - [title]. That just reuins the whole effect of the gorgeous finder. Plus, then we cant trick observant people. :P

I also have a suggestion for your finder. Instead of writing pre coded directories for your toolbar buttons, just put the toolbar buttons in there, and let us choose where we want them to point us to. That way we can have our music folder where we want our music folder and our documents folder where that is, and we can just point the button to that directory. Secondly, I know you were probably already planning this, but with the next release do you think you could give us more toolbar buttons to choose from, such as music and movies and the various other buttons that are configurable in the mac jaguar finder. Then, with all the buttons there would be too many to place all on the toolbar at once, so it would be great if we could then choose the buttons we want. I dont know how hard it would be to do all this, but I'm guessing not that hard, looking at what you have already done! ;) Those are just some ideas of mine to make your already amazing finder application, even better. Kudos to you jef! ;):D

One more thing! I know your probably going to incorporate the information bar between the toolbar buttons and the window right? You know the one that says, how many icons, the size of the folder, stuff like that. That would be really cool. Also one other thing I noticed just last minute. Please allow the icon to change accordingly to what we are viewing. I know right now it is set to the finder icon static. But please change that! And... the "w" in view under the view selection buttons is cutoff. Its probably just my computer, but I dont know. Great job.

While starting up iTalk...

339

Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid iTalk

Ironically enough I've gotten this error before and fixed it before, but I'm to tired to go searching for the answer again. Does anyone know how to fix it?

#8426

for some very weird reason, i cant even install italk. my computer freezes in the first installation screen.

and aquamail gives me errors about avi's throbbbers, and otgher stuff like that. for aquamail wat extact contols would i need to use it? chilkat mail and the smtp?

#8468

I get the same thing about AVIs and such n aquaMail

I also see only 1/4 of each icon in aquaFinder

#8470

Hate to be ignorant but where do I download the aqua apps, and aqua controls.

This sites' downloads are down,.. and the rest of the net only has links to here?

...stumped...

hey jef the last builds work surprisingly better and faster, and now that i have a mac i see everything you did to match all the details. it just looks GREAT MAN!

in italk (the new build i got from aquaXP), it crashes right after a file transfer. other than that - its magnificent

Ouchhhh!

These apps are not so good here.

AquaFinder

Faithful graphics to aqua but:

1. 5 Seconds to open (from RAM not harddisk!) I don't get it it just sits and waits 5 seconds before opening.

2. 48x48 Icons Maximum. Therefore onlythe corner (?) of all your icons is visible. (major nono)

3. Will not display icons of folders that you changed the icon of. You just get blue folders.

4. Will not be shadowed by Y's Shadow.

5. Feel is empty, you get no (not enough) feedback from the GUI. I.e. when you push buttons. Also there is considerable lag.

Aquabrowser.

1. No shadow with y's shadow (? I've seen it with shadows before)

2. The top settings button does not work.

3. No CTRL-ENTER to add www.---.com

4. Weird feel, I.e. "Right (!!) clicking on "Home" also takes you to the homepage.

5. None the settings button at the top doesn't work. (how do I change the default "home" page.

Real real slow.

Sorry man, uninstall for now.

:blink::(

#8555

None of the applications can be shadowed by Yz. Only WinFX will do that.

#8558

Hello!

Well I am able to run all the Aqua apps, they run very well on my system, considering it is an Celeron 450 :o

I could use all the apps regulary, but I use only iTalk, it is a very good substitute to Messenger ;)

Aquabrowser is great, but it doesn't fit in with my brushed style and so does aquafinder not...

I would use aquamail if there was only an IMAP protocol support... Guess I will have to wait.

Jef, you have done a good job and I hope with time your aqua apps will only be better and more stable, thanks for all of them! ;)

Regards, MiB.

The new builds are awsome jef. But, I can't get aquabrowser to keep my current toolbar icons. That what it is supposed to do if you check that before installing it, right? Also, aquamail doesn't come up with a mail settings dialog box anymore. I uninstalled everything and re-installed but the box still doesn't come. Maybe I should delete those registry keys.

Hmmm..not sure why it's not saving your toolbar icons. And yes...there is a registry key that is keeping the mail settings dialog box from coming up. However, If you select Mail->Preferences from the menubar you can edit the settings of your current accounts and add new accounts.

Oh, thanks a bunch. I think I might know why my toolbar icons aren't being saved. Will it use yz toolbar icons? That is what I am using. I did not edit the shell32 file to change my icons. Thanks again jef. You rule.

To change the AquaBrowser icons, you need to replace the aquahot.bmp, aquadis.bmp, aquanorm.bmp, aquapressed.bmp files in the folder where you installed AquaBrowser.

#9096

Oh ****. I am a big retard. Thanks jef.

None of the Aqua apps are working for me, I get this error: "This application has failed to start because MSVBVM60.DLL was not found. Blah blah blah..."

This might just be my comp, because logon studio is doing the same thing.

any suggestions?

#9876

Try a google search for "MSVBVM60.DLL".

Put it in your windows\system32\ dir.

Cheers.

#9915

Ah, Google... Is there anything it can't do?

Unfortunatly, the apps still dont work:

Aqua Finder: Run time errors 0 and 440

Aqua Browser: 429: ActiveX component can't create object AquaControls, then run time error 0

iTalk: 429 and 372: failed to load control 'vbalGrid' from vbalGrid6.ocx

I have AquaControls installed, and the Chilkat thing too.

#10053

Check the Help part of this site please. It'll tell you how to reinstall th aquacontrols so maybe the apps will work.

#10055

ok, got the vbal thing

now i get: 374: failed to activate control 'VB.UserControl' (for iTalk)

#10059

For some reason aquafinder won't work no icons, nothing
