which mini and how much ram? (and which version of ps?) and the big question...it runs okay?
also, what about garageband? can the mini handle it? anybody ballsy enough to try protools on a mini?

I don't have a mini myself, but I can make assumptions.
1) The processor speed on both minis should be enough
2) Photoshop's speed depends a lot more on RAM, so if you max out the mini's ram, you should be ok
3) Getting a firewire external drive to use as a scratch disk will also improve Photoshop's performance.
4) If you do all of the above, Photoshop will (theoretically) fly on the mini. I mean its not like your editing drumscans of medium format negatives are you?
1) Yeah again, if you have the RAM, garageband should be ok
1) Hahahahah....various pro apps such as Motion/Final Cut Pro HD require a good video card.....something which the mini does not have...so I wouldnt recommend doing any video/3rd/special effects work on the mini.
PS. *points to your custom member title* "LEIK OMG LOLZ! ME TOO!"
mine should be arriving this week (1.4 GHz with 512MB RAM), will give it a try
I'm running photoshop cs very nicely with my iBook 1.33 with 256MB. But I'm not dealing with 4000x4000 images yet. The highest res i've gone up to with no problems was 1280x1024 when I make wallpapers. Maybe after I get new memory, I'll give the higer res images a try.

Can't wait ![]()

mmm so ditched the iBook eh?
heh, when you're waiting for something it's like time almost comes to a stop, seems like it's been a week since the last post already :-/
?
Anyways, it SHOULD run on a mini anyways. I have a weaker 1GHz PowerBook, and it runs amazingly smooth...
Why Apple Computer? I never want it even it's made for designers.

Dont derrail the topic. Dont want an apple computer? Dont buy it. We could not care less as to why you choose so.
so photoshop can run smooth on a mac mini. end of story. if you want more information, there's tons of benchmarks on photoshop, imovie, and others to compare everything.
yeah oit runs pretty smoth. minis are just as great as any mac
my mini arrived Friday Morning, though unfortunately my cable internet went down thursday night and hasn't come back yet (server failure or something at the ISP)

and many other benchmarks by using the kewords "phoshop mac mini" will bring a lot of decent benchmark results.
it really all depends on what kind of photoshop work you want to do. If its hard core photoretouching/large files etc...drive speed plays a big roll. I can do most things in PS on my ibook but once I start working with larger files it starts bogging down a bit...
when i had a 1.5ghz g4 it ran horrid. Personaly my 2ghz dothan laptop runs better.
We are not dealing with little images here. Photoshop runs even on a 800mhz G3 with 512mb of ram. That is if your dealing with little images (1600x1200 and down)
When you are dealing with perday 6+ megapixel images, it shows it helps. Never seemed to like the mac version of PS.
*6 megapixel RAWs from a Canon Rebel
I run Photoshop 7 on a beige PM G3/266 mhz. 640mb ram and OS 9.2. I am still happily editing 5megapixel photos with various layers, while my current mac is not the fastest, I think the miini will kill me. I do have a Intel P4 2.8 but do still prefer the G3 with photoshop. I just started thinking about upgrading to a mini.
I'm running Photoshop and InDesign CS on a PowerBook G4 550MHz 256MB RAM just fine... just a little slow to load but once it's cooking, it's all good.
Photoshop runs faster than CandyBar, which is slightly amusing to think about. ![]()
I got my mini, and photoshop runs with NO problems whatsoever.
Same thing with garageband. btw, specs are as follows:
1.42 Ghz cpu
512 mb RAM
80 GB Hard disk
Combo Drive
Internal Bluetooth
+Wireless apple keyb & mouse

Look what I did yesterday to test its multitasking ability.
http://img31.exs.cx/img31/9108/picture35qo.jpg
I had an awefull lot of apps open, including stuff
like photoshop excell garageband iMovie HD word
powerpoint etc...
It was begining to get a little slow but still useable
and the expose effects were getting choppy.
So, as you can see, PS and garageband arn't any
problem at all.
Hope this helps ![]()
Gabriel.
impressive.
So, if you had 1Gb of ram... would expose be smoother in this case?
Yeah, basically more ram is more multitasking capability.
Photoshop CS on my mini (low end, with 512 RAM) and it's fine for the casual user.
