It would seem highly unlikely that Skin Manager would be causing these problems.
We can't completely rule it out but like I said, it's highly unlikely.
Are you using any iTunes plug-ins ????
If so, which one/ones are you using ?
When you said you wouldn't have any response from the program, did you mean Skin Manager or iTunes ??? Please be specific as they both use system tray icons.
If you are using multi-plugin then uninstall it and see if your problems persist. I had multi-plugin installed and was experiencing the exact same problems.

I just tested the demo with the 4 new skins and I found 2 bugs.
1/ I applied PM2K5_Pink then I applied Siro. -> the pb is, as some parts of iTunes are modified by PM2K5 but not by Siro, there was still some pink in iTunes...
2/ When I installed iTunes Skin Manager, I had iTunes v4.7.0.42. To test the new skins, I upgraded iTunes to 4.7.1.3. The pb is that Skin Manager didn't upgraded his backup of iTunes.exe. So, to be back to the default skin, I had to run the iTunes installer and repair the install as Skin Manager can only restore an obsolete version.
Well, I used the first version of the demo so mb the pbs have been corrected since.

How did I find your software :
Very easy to use. The skins are beautifull and change iTunes without modify its feeling. Great job !
But I don't think I will purchase a licence. Indeed :
- you can't modify for yourself the skins other people did. For exemple, if I had the pictures of the skins, I may have been able to modify the Multiplugin to match the skins and so keep the title-bar buttons at left.
- but more importantly, when a new version of iTunes will be released, I will have to wait for a new version of Skin Manager of course. But I will have to wait too for a new versions of the skins as I will not be able to modify them or convert them for the new version. And who know where will be the people who make the skins now ?

Yeup, your absolutley right.. The first version of the demo would cause the exact problems your are describing. Please download the new Demo version.
Also, when a new version of iTunes is released, you will have not have to wait for a new version of Skin Manager. You will have to wait for a new SKIN file for that version of iTunes, thats it.

Bingo. I use the multi-plugin to get left-side buttons and a more integrated title bar. If I uninstall it and get no more crashes, I have no problem at all dropping $3.50 on your program. (By the way, thanks for deciding to continue its development!)
