AveDesk 1.2 Status

AveDesk 1.2 is slowly getting shaped. The changes aren't as big as in the 1.0-to-1.1 update, but there are (imho) some pretty nice new things.

Of course, all errors / bugs mentioned in this thread are investigated and fixed.

Some new features

The above screenshot is showing several new options. Font shadows are much better rendered now, so white text will contrast enough on a light-coloured background. Shadows are, of course, fully tweakable.

Labels can now have different looks for selected/not selected. The screenshot above is showing the same desklet (duplicated for the shot of course) in not selected and in selected state. Notice how the label of the selected desklet reflect a selection-state: the droshadow is gone and there is a labelbackground now.

AveDesk 1.2 can use multiple themes, which can be loaded through the right-click menu. Besided from multiple themes, The slow theme.INI is now gone and is replaced by very fast *.avetheme files.

Another change is that themes and settings are stored in the users %APPDATA% folder, for full compatibility with multi-user environments and non-admin accounts.

The AveFocus add-on application is now fully integrated in AveDesk. ShowCase ,as it is called, will allow the user to quickly bring up all his desklets above all other windows by pressing a hotkey. Depending on the users choice, ShowCase will be animated or not.

Another feature is to hide desklets, until ShowCase is invoked.

Other

Internally, a lot of things have been changed: AveDesk now runs as a multi-threaded application, so a heavy desklet will no longer block other desklets.

AveDesk 1.2 will be available for download when it's ready and stable. I'm not having a lot of free time (uni"work"other) until 24 december , thus I cannot spend lots of time coding this thing.

The things mentioned here are not all new things, I won't give everything away. I'll try to post some updates to this thread in the next couple of weeks. Feel free to hit me with your questions / suggestions / whines in this thread, I don't guarantee Ill answer.

@ DD - you can change the image (AveDesk logo by default) to anything you like by simply replacing the default png.

Moo, having avedesk on mac would be cool, really. There are so many things that cannot be modified in mac that can in avedesk...

Looks truly great!!! Just one question... When something is selected, I love the background around the icon but do we have the option of not disabling the dropshadow or adding a label? If so, that would be truly awesome!

(I have a feeling that it is already implimented or will be; just curious though )

What I love about the current AD 1.1 is that when I reinstall windows,

AD with all it's settings and Desklets stays intact, because I have it stored on a different partition. Don't tell me that this is gone in your new version, 'cause that would totally blow.
