[Link] Konfabulator for Windows

Juno if I recall all it does is instruct every app to dump as much as possible to swap. This in effect decreases system performance and skyrockets page faults. I would beware when using such an app.

Well you won't need it (PowderCleaner) on Konfabulator for long... I can guarantee you that. :)

This type of thing will (as mentioned) cause faults to increase, but for things like widgets, it isn't generally a big deal since they are largely dormant. I'm experimenting with a couple of different methods at the moment. At the very least, it flushes out the code that brought the app up and will leave what's really necessary to run things. So for example, while it might take 10MB initially, something like PowderCleaner can get it down to a few hundred K. While running though, the widget might need more. I'd like us to stay in between the ultra-low and the middle number, and far away from the high one :P We're on it, though.

w00t! :D Glad to see you got it working.

Hey Ricky, thanks for the clocks mate, anychance for a mini version? I think lot of us only have 1024x768 screen so the clocks are way big on the screen :D :D a mini version would be cool

#227303

hey guys| is it me or the mini -weather widget is not using the right...font?

respect.

aniba!

#227305

^^ I think the fonts are futura, which are included in the mac os by default. Google around a little and find them. I think though they should have been changed from futura to some other font if i'm not mistaken. Look around the konfabulator forums. ;)

That's what the scaling preference is for. :) Unless you have 1.5, that is... If you have round buttons when you click on the Widget, you have the old version, which cannot scale. Otherwise you should be able to change the size just by right clicking, going into Widget Preferences, and adjusting the appropriate slider.

1.5 was posted for a bit masquerading as 2.0 because of a tangle with the new Gallery system, but as was said before, you can now get version 2.0 at this URL:

@Ricky: I've got another question to ask you, how can I change the font for that widget? It uses a mac font that I don't have on my PC so I need to change the font to match with my theme :P

Hi all, back on the subject of memory consumption. I am now thinking that any tricks to flush your app out is just a numbers game. Honestly, it doesn't reduce the app's memory usage, it just pages it out prematurely. When the OS needs more real memory, it will just page your app out anyway as needed. By doing it ahead of time, you are actually causing more disk activity. And one thing I'm not sure about is that if you did this periodically, particularly on a portable, you'd never let your hard disk go to sleep as it would have to keep waking up to page itself out. I am now thinking it might be better to just let the OS do it when it needs to. A lot of the memory you see as used is stuff involved in loading the libraries, etc. When you look at the private memory use of a widget, it is typically around 4-5K. Looking here at the digital clock for another widget application for Windows, it is also 4-5K. So what I might try is a compromise... after we load, I will flush the app and then let it run. It won't stay down at 400K, but it will won't keep touching the disk either forever.

#227430

Was anyone able to find out how long is the limited try out period for...?

#227431

two weeks, if I'm not mistaken.

#227433

That sounds pretty good to me, Ed. Thanks for your time and attention towards us windows users :)

i`m not so sure this is the best place to post this but World Clock Pro v2.0 appearas to have a bug when Konposed.

it works fine for a whiole and then starts "loosing" images and starts displaying "missing" images. i`ve tried to un-hide the clocks (3 of them) and it appears that they work fine that way. So this bug appears only when widgets are in Konpose Only mode.

here`s a SS of what happens.

i`d apreciate any help ricky and thanks for a great widget :)

@Ricky: I've got another question to ask you, how can I change the font for that widget? It uses a mac font that I don't have on my PC so I need to change the font to match with my theme :P

Add .zip to the Widget's extension in something that isn't weird with showing extensions, like an FTP program or something, then unzip it. Go into the Widget's contents folder and open up the clock.kon file in a plain text editor like NoteTab (don't tell it to open up all .kon files in a text editor or it'll open every spawn's code in your text editor) and change the font in the city and cityShadow text objects to the font you want to use. Save the file back, then you can either rezip the package and put the extension back to just .widget, or open up the clock.kon file in Konfabulator.

Yeah, seems a bit complicated for what you want to do, but I'm trying to keep my preference box reasonably small and uncluttered. :P

[EDIT] I'll have a nice font fallback system in the next version so it doesn't display in a fat font unless it really has to.

#227557

Couple questions. Does anyone have a widget for Windows yet that duplicates the widget Metaconnected?

aashish13- I take it you're using Trillian Pro (http://screenshots.haque.net/screenshots/v...nshot-22474.png). My question is what skin it that? Is it the ichat av or 2.0 skin from Danimator? If so, please tell me how to change the top of it so it says my name and how you got that heart picture. Much appreciated.
