That's how I do it too - apply the wallpaper on OSX using pearpc, take a screenshot then use that for wallpaper - it's the only way I know to get a perfect OSX shadow which doesn't overlap windows, the way WindowFX does.
Have you got the latest version? It shouldn't overlap, it doesn't for me.

I use Objectbar and tick the 'block WindowFX from applying its shadows to this bar'. If I don't then the shadow overlaps the titlebar of any maximised window, or any window thats at the top of the screen. So that doesn't happen for you?
In any event, afaik the WindowFX shadow doesn't look quite the same as the OSX one, so my way it looks authentic
