[help] Picture Thumbnails On The Desktop
Go to http://www.mvps.org/emorcillo/, download and install edanmo's
shell extensions.
One of his extensions will thumbnail all images to the system icon size
on the desktop and also in explorer.

ah very cool ! just what i needed, thx !!! ![]()
I know this question has been asked before, but the answers were either incomplete or extreemly hard to understand.
In OSX, when an image file, such as a JPG or Bitmap, is stored on the desktop it is shown as a thumbnail of the image. In windows, when an image is stored on the desktop, it appears as a basic icon.
Is there a way mimic this effect without using a program such as Desktop X? When somebody else asked a question similiar to this, someone suggested a site that had shell modifactions. These modifactions had to be done manually and looked very complex.
As I don't have a lot of time to compile a bunch of scripts, do you all know any other ways to accomplish this effect without giving in to Destop X? I know that thumbnail support is built right into explorer because it will show thumbnails in folder modes.
Thanks in advance.
i dont think you can, i have them as thumbnails in the finder but when i put them on the desktop they arnt like that.
to stifle any confusion, i want to have thumbnails on the desktop in windows xp.
it appears like an icon on osx too... i dont think there is anything you can do about it, ide check but im in school
that's actually where i'm at at the moment. we use macs and i do alot of graphic design on them. some images come up on the desktop as thumbnails, and some just as boring old icons. i don't know why. but i do wish there was a way in windows. *sigh*
i went to the site but i have no idea what to look for? it seems that the site is for uber-technical savy people and a lot of the stuff is complicated. what do i download and how do i install it? it seems like some of it has to be manually compiled.
is this for the effect like the os x's? if so, i want to know if it's possible too.
there was a patch that would show PSDs as images (icons that would show the image).
i`m not so sure about JPGs
@Blackecho: can you give us a link to that site with scripts?
sure pe8er,
This is the original thread:
http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread....mbnails+desktop
and this is the actuall site:
I'm useing Stardocks IconX to achieve this effect
@revroy: I think it's a part of DesktopX, you can't get it separatedly.
@Blackecho: sorry but I can't help you. Those scripts look way too bizarre for me ![]()
ah, that's ok. thanks anyway to everyone who helped. i guess i'll just have to give in to desktopx. still, thanks!
rjohnstone: please link the page where the .msi is. I can't find it, but it looks so nice!
EDIT: http://www.mvps.org/emorcillo/vb6/shell/index.shtml

I'm assuming it's this one?
Downloaded and installed...do I need to restart to change?
Unfortunately, this installed all the extensions. I'm an idiot and I have no clue how to even run it.
Someone please help? No wait, that's not a question...![]()

P.S: If any of you call me an idiot, and cite this post as proof, I will deny it categorically and state I don't know you.
No need to reboot... once the extensions are installed you're set.
Here's the DL page http://www.mvps.org/emorcillo/vb6/shell/index.shtml
Well then, it doesn't seem to be working for me. Installed it, and nothing has happened. Anything else special I need to do?

After you install it, you go to your start menu and select each one you want. The installer installs a number of little installers for each extension.
Hmmmm ok, now I'm a bit puzzled as well. I didn't have to do anyhting other than run the MSI package. It just worked.
Topics merged.
And it doesn't work for me too....I installed shlext.msi and it created some entries in start menu. But when I click it gives me a message that 'windows cannot open this file - Thumb.vbp'. I guess it has something to do with Visual Basic. But what...?
