The Olympics are the one thing that countries can put aside problems and just have fun. It's the only thing that unites pratically every nation in the world under the "Human Race" banner.
Does anyone care about them?
I know that there is a diverse community here from all parts of the world.How is the atmosphere there about the Olympics?
Are the Americans just too stuck up to even care about them anymore?
I really think it is lame that all these people take steroids and crap.
Other than that, they are fun to watch, but thats about it.
Watching it all on the Eurosport channel 
BTW, just for the record, There are 202 nations at the olympics and 210 nations are a member of the FIFA, the world football federation (soccer, for you americans).
I like watching football but we never get it on American stations

I wouldn't say that we Americans are too stuck up to care about the Olympics. I do however think that there has been growing lack of interest due in part to the growing number of professionals competing in various events. In many cases where the pros are concerned it has become no more interesting than say watching the NBA, NHL, etc. In my oppinion the Olympics needs to revert to its pre professional ways to make the games special and to really stand out.

And to say the olympics are not political is a bunch of B.S.
They tell us not to celebrate publicly if we win a medal, as it may make us (Americans) look cocky.
Tell that to the Aussies and the South Africans and the rest of the athletes.
If I were to accomplish something as wonderful as winning an olympic medal, regardless of color, I'm going to dance my a$$ off and I could care less about anyone else thinking I'm being cocky.
If you are talented enough to win a medal, you deserve the right to celebrate.
Just being able to qualify for the olympics is reason alone.
The doping crap is getting out of hand as well. Play fair or don't show up.
And just because someone wins a ton of medals, don't assume they are doping.
I found that the way the French responded to Lance Armstrong winning the Tour de France was deplorable.
How many piss tests and blood tests does someone have to take before people will realize they are witnessing a great moment in history and not assuming he must be cheating because nobody can be that good.
Right... they said nobody could run a mile in under 4 minutes either, yet people do it all the time now.
Am I a bit jaded with the rest of the world... yes.
Do I have a reason to be... I think so.

dude wizard why would americans be stuck up if they didn't voice their opinions on "aqua-soft"? i care, i really think its fantastic that we can all participate in the world community.....i just have a problem with iran....since they pulled their wrestling? player out because he was going to face an israeli....really come on its the olympics. The Greeks also showed ignorance [right word?] when the turks came out by boooooooo-ing.
i guess its up to the younger generation to put ideals, problems aside for 2 weeks.

I think the olympics are an awfull thing. These people devote there whole lives to one thing, i dont think that healthy at all. Its worse then profesional sports imho.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching them as well.
I just wish I could watch all of the events I would like to except most are only be broadcast late at night.
Don't own a Tivo yet either. I guess there's always the old VCR.
As a proud canadian i've always been following how our athletes compete internationally. So far i'm glad that each sport that i've seen canadians have done really well and are continuing in the following days.
It is sad though that the numbers in terms of athletes to countries aren't as strong as they used to be but again that goes with how the economy is. It is disheartening though that several athletes are taking these enhancement boosters but again it's up to the athlete themselves. I do wonder though how many athletes represent the Philippines at the games or even if there is a team at all.
at least that's my take for now...
I always wanted to watch Fencing, but they always show the other form of it (Swording or something like that). As I said previously, I watch Soccer (Football) because I want to understand if. It's basically most of the stuff that doesn't get any air time that I enjoy watching, just because it's unique (well, I don't get to see it often or at all).
I watched the women's beach vollyball. That's probably the only thing I'm going to watch...wait. I watched women's swimming too, but its kinda gross. Girls with that much muscle...gross. And whats with these one-piece suits?! At least the American girls showed off some ass, lol.
And if you find a football game (soccer) like this, let me know...

I think they SHOULD start a seperate Olympics - just for the Steroid users. Faster runners, stronger swimmers... would liven things up a bit
I'm from the UK so I won't be watching the Olympics - our team is always sucessful at missing out and its too depressing to watch.

i think it'd be interesting if we had an alternative olympics where athletes participate in activities they're not good at. imagine alan iverson doing the pommel horse! :woot:
