The Best Albums

In a quest to create as many kick-a55 General Discussion threads, I have thought of yet another one.

What are your favorite albums?

"Why albums" you ask? We have a favorite Artist and Song thread, but we don't focus on the crap that people create. Thus, that is where the albums take place. You CANNOT say that an album was great because of one or two songs. Being a great album means that the artist just did awesome on the album, maybe a few songs that you don't like.

Also, compilation albums are NOT valid, since they are not from one artist, nor for that fact are Soundtracks since they are basically compilations also. Scores of movies are acceptable since it is Classical music.

Now, in no particular order:

1) Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers

It's kinda funny, they only song I really don't care about is "Californication." Maybe because it was played everywhere and I just got sick of it. But the rest of the songs are really good. Almost every song is a sexual innuendo, I love it.

2) Jar of Flies - Alice in Chains

Only 7 songs, but they all have different styles. It opens with "Rotten Apple" which is just a song of things that could piss anyone off. A nice acoustic song "Nutshell" which is just nice to hear. Of course you know "I Stay Away" if you heard of Alice in Chains. I don't really care about "No Excuses" because it feels like it was made in the 80's. But it is slowly growing on me. Followed by a great song "Wasp and Whale." It is just music (no words) but it really takes you for a ride. Followed by my favorite song by Alice in Chains, Don't Follow. It starts off slow, but it picks up about half-way through. I think it's the harmonica that makes it that much better (like "The Wizard" by Black Sabbath). And then a nice psudo-jazz style song "Swing on This"

3) Sing the Sorrow -A.F.I.

I could relate to any of the songs on this album. It opens with almost a cult like song "Miseria Cantare" (latin for Sing the Sorrow, methinks). It's almost like a chant song. And then "The Leaving Song, Part 2" which is a song that I really enjoy. For the sake of space, I will go to only two more songs. "The Great Disappointment" is the song I completely fell in love to. It was the song that made me really want to hear the rest of the album. I really can't explain it to you, it is just so beautiful. The last song of the CD is "...But Home is Nowhere" which is just a fine work of musicianship. It starts off strong, and ends even stronger. And the hidden track "This Time Imperfect" is just beautiful (in a different way then "The Great Disappointment"), and I could really relate it to the past year and a half of my life. Each song is different in its own way, but doesn't let you down.

lets see, my faves would be.

the downward spiral by NINE INCH NAILS:if u lisen to the whole album from start to finish, it tells a story. like a warm place is the feeling of drug use, and eraser is the comeing down from it. u know what, just lisen to the dam thing

13 steps by A PERFECT CIRCLE, this is there 2nd album, and it shows SO much growth from the first one. each song has its own flavor, its own fell. not 2 songs sound alike. that and i love manerds voice.

title of record by filter, this one starts our very hard, alot like the first cd. but it mellows out half way threw. and its really some of my favorite songs. skinny, canser, miss blue. i wish richerd patric would do more slow soft songs. he has a great voice for it.

yeah so thoughs are my 3 fav's.

KID A - Radiohead

This is just an amazing album in every sense. Highly experimental but nonetheless, hauntingly calming.

Gorillaz - Gorillaz

One of those albums which isn't bound by genres. Its either rock with a big hip-hop influence or vice versa. Whatever it is, theres some great songwriting on here, highly inspirational.

Doolittle - The Pixies

Another modern classic. I cant really explain what Doolittle is all about, but its one amazing album.

Room On Fire - The Strokes

While not as highly acclaimed as their debut album Is This It I think Room On Fire sees the maturing style of songwriting of Julian. Theres some really amazing songs on here. Both of these albums have been the soundtrack to my life for the last year.

The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails

I don't think i have to explain this one. It is a masterpiece right from its CD cover...

The Thirteenth Step - A Perfect Circle

It portrays accurately what life hands to you, a mixture of good and bad, leaving you different mouth-tastes after each song... Very emotional

Boys For Pele - Tori Amos

Each song is different yet every song screams Tori Amos... this is for me his most personal work.

Many others but.. c'mon, i got stuff to do (yeah, right)

Outkast - SpeakerBoxxx/ The Love Below

SpeakerBox is nice music while doing sports, good beats and nice rythm. The Love Below is just the most funniest music ever made. thanks Zilla!

The Peppers - Californication

It's the kind of music I can always listen to. Agreed with Wizard on the song 'californication'.

Jovanotti - Raccolta

Dunno, I just love italian music (and food, girls, cities).

1. Robert Fripp - That Which Passes

2. Robert Fripp - Radiophonics

Beautiful, amorphic music played on guitar which doesn't sound like guitar at all.

3. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

4 years of my life with this CD It expresses my ****ed up self in 200%

4. King Crimson - THRAK

The most diverse KC album. 'Intelligent metal', like Bill Bruford (on of the drummers) said. Metal + jazz + weird soundscapes performed by 6 old weirdoz

5. Tool - Aenima

Another intelligent metal album. I love the way how Maynard's vocal is set - it's choked by very powerful guitars. And percussion's sound gives me shivers

6. Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park

Chaotical, yet very innovative and dirty industrial.

7. Tsujiko Noriko - From Tokyo to Niagara

Beautiful voice + dirty sounds and japanese language = orgasm

8. David Bowie - 1.Outside

It's very diverse too. I love Bowie's voice and Brian Eno's ideas on this album (he was something like director).

9. Dead Can Dance - Into The Labirynth

It calms me down and makes me smile, very refreshing music.

10. Pantera - Far Beyond Driven

Opposition to No. 9 Super-fast slaughterhouse, great guitars, awesome drummer, aggression and energy.

I wanted to choose 3, then 5 and I ended up with 10 >.<

Its not an album but it is a half hour of some of the most amazing electronic music in the world.

By the way, electronic doesnt mean Dance, trance or rave. I hate that crap.

This album still hasn't been matched since it's release. Kid A is ok, but Aenima really just grabs ahold and wont let go.

Guided me through my late teenage to mid twenties.

5. Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene

This is one of my first impressions with HIFI, I was 7 when

I first heard it out about 1976. Blew my ears open.

I'm not a queer but I absolutely adore Donna Summer's 'I feel love'

from her 1977 'I remember yesterday' album, which I don't like that much.

i can definitely agree with the velvet underground, one of my all-time favs.

i will say, though, "nothing's shocking" is a lot better as a whole album than ritual by jane's addiction... but ritual does have my favorite song, 'of course'
