I play the piano and the saxophone but I am most experienced in the guitar.
I have a Epiphone Les Paul and a Dean Playmate for guitars. I use a Marshall half stack. I really want to get a Mesa Boogie head though.
I play the oboe and the piano (not a lot).
I have an oboe (Rigoutat) which is quite old. But that costs so much I will wait a few more before buying a new one.
And I play the piano at the house of my parents.
piano - classically trained for 5-6 years. part of some piano guild (forgot name). learned the greats: beethoven, mozart, chopin, bach. wrote some piano pieces as well.
guitar - been playing for 8-9 years. started off with my yamaha acoustic (at home right now), but then my dad bought me a fender stratocaster. i started off with learning pop/rock music, moved into grunge, mastered all the pearl jam songs. picked up japanese rock later on, loved siam shade (jrock band) and played their songs. picked up more techniques. i usually use my fender to write songs.
then i started getting into dream theater and progressive rock. mastered the songs on metropolis pt. 2, then moved on to their other albums.
2nd year of college, i bought myself an ibanez rg 7-string guitar, and been playing mostly dream theater since then.
all of my 3 years in university, i performed with my band.
Drums, but had to sell my set a year ago and a new one isn't gonna be comin by for a while, got other things to spend $$ first.
In order of learning:
Piano (8 years and counting): completed my Grade 8 Conservatory (Canada) and Grade 4 Theory with honours. I still play on and off, but stopped taking lessons a few years back. I mostly learn things by ear now and occassionally sheet music when I find a complex song I like and can't learn it on my own. Unfortunately, my parents gave away our piano to my uncle so that his children could learn while I was at school. It's too bad, as I was planning on having it restored and re-tuned this summer.
Trombone (5 years): started in grade school and completed highschool with this as my main instrument in the bands. I remember them telling us that finishing our OAC music courses gave us a grade 7 or 8 Conservatory equivalency. I don't play much any more because I don't have access to a trombone, yet I still have my mouthpiece, which I borrowed indefinitely from school...
Bass guitar (5 years and counting): started in grade school when my friends started a band and needed a bassist. I've been playing since then, focussing mainly on rock and jazz with a little funk thrown in once in a while to liven things up. Started off with a cheap Sammick P-bass knockoff that our drummer lent us, but now have a Fender Jazz bass. I learn most things by ear, listening to the cds and playing along. Favourite bass licks have to be from TOOL, because they're intricate as hell.
I've also dabbled with the trumpet, flute, and classical guitar, though my double jointed fingers made flute and guitar almost impossible.
Two Ibanez AX120, one orange and one antique nickel. An Art & Luthurie acoustic guitar. Been playing for 7-8 years.

i was thinking of actually starting to learn guitar... anyone have any good starter suggestions, equipment, methods, etc. acoustic, not electric (although a good power chord would be nice to learn).
i would like a cheap one to begin with, say around $100-125.
If you go to a music store, they may have starter kits. My older brother got one when he started. The have a generic electric guitar, song book (maybe even a CD), patch cord and a small amp. Not worthy of preforming with it, but nice for learners. They cost about $100 if I remember right.

He must like the F-Holes of his Les Paul. Or maybe the curvy body. Or the head must be exquisite. But I am sure he can always hit the G-String just right, everytime.

I play clarinet and alto sax—I've played clarinet since I was in 4th grade, so for 11 years; I've played alto since 8th grade, hence for 7 years. (Yay, I can do math.) I was in literally every band in high school (concert, symphonic, jazz, marching, pit orchestra), and played some with the orchestra senior year and was in a local community band, Northwinds, for 2 years. I was a section leader and all that for a couple years. I haven't gotten to play much since I've been here at WU, though, 'cause our instrumental music program frankly sucks a lot. I've only gotten to be in a small wind ensemble for a year and two pit orchestras, Cabaret and Pippin.
My alto's a nice shiny coppery-brass Blessing with a great sound. The clarinet I played on until just a few months ago was a resin Vito with persistent air leaks—the new one's a wood Buffet E11 with a Rovner ligature, Vandoren mouthpiece, etc. that I got a great deal on.
I also can play a bit of flute, as my mom used to teach flute, and I can get a sound out of several other wind instruments, but I've never seriously pursued 'em. I can also play a bit of piano. I've been playing guitar since 7th grade, so for 8 years, and I can play pretty much any basic chord (open or barre), read tablature, and do bluegrass fingerpicking, but I'm not really serious about playing. I've got an old black-and-white Fender knock-off Crate with a little tiny Crate amp at home, and here I've got an acoustic steel-string guitar of some sort that works rather well.

i would choose the ibanez, over the fender myself, it's just a preference of mine.
you won't know what you like until you go to a music store and try a couple of guitars out, it's all about comfort when you start out.
but you can never lose with a banjo (insert dueling banjo's here)
