Fantastic app to supplement AveDesk, Andreas! (Y)

A couple of questions:

- Is there an option to bring all the desklets to the front all at once? Currently AveFocus brings the desktlets to the front in the order of the the desklets in the Avedesk Control Panel - and in my case, my desklets look like they're sprouting from all over my desktop.

- After pressing F8 and all the desktop are in front, and say if we select a drive icon and double click on it, can AveFocus "turn off" upon the double click coz as it is, after double clicking on the icon, the background is still dimmed.

E.g.

1. I press F8, and all desklet appear and background dims

2. I double click on a Drive desklet (eg C:\) and the explorer window appears - background returns to focus.

Thank you AndreasV - really a great addon for a fantastic application. I gave all my G4/G5's away for free. Nobody really wanted them

But on one of my PCs it runs where slow - "runs" is the wrong word, it sneaks. The whole fade out process takes about 30sec. on a Athlon64 3200+ (Matrox P650, Dual 1600x1200). Does it use OpenGL, DirectX or similar?

I don't by any chance suppose that it would be possible to add certain desklets just to AveFocus? So when you press F8 pre-defined desklets appear and pressing F10 would show desktop desklets.....

When there is more integration with AveDesk, things probably will go smoother. A problem I am still facing is when a doubleclick on a desklet will make the ''focussing' disappear, because for some desklets, like a shortcut you want that, but for a calculator or a iTunesWidget I dont know if that is a good thing.

There ought to be a batch file with the content

AveDesk.exe /regserver

in the AveDesk folder.

Actually, AveDesk registers its type library on first start,

but it doesn't distinguish between recent updates yet,

e.g. if you had a 1.1 beta registered, the missing interfaces

require running aforementioned batch.

May I drop a little thought about some future improvements?

When you add a new desklet or open desklet properties they open under the AveDesk overlay, so you have to hit F8 to close avefocus, and then you can play with the settings, and hit F8 again to see the results.

would it be possible to make AveDesk dialogs to appear above the overlay as the desklets appear?

Hey Ave,

once again, fantastic work! Thanks so much for all you do for this community - you have transended the bounds of simple eye-candy and are releasing genuinely useful apps etc... ...that also look great!

Just for those who like a nice alpha-blended icon in their taskbar, I've attached a new icon - hope you don't mind Ave? Simply drop into your AveDesk\Icons folder and point AveDesk to it via the control panel.

Just one small prob I have with AveDesk (and have done since before v1.0) is that using both Powder's powdermount desklet and 1.1's default drive desklet, I can't get the hidden, unmounted drive desklets to 'unhide' when windoze mounts them. I've tried with AutoInsert Notification on and off but with no luck. Any suggestions?

Other than that, thanks for such a brilliant app.

Interface not supported.

So I tried going to start->run and entering:

regsvr32 "c:\program files\AveDesk\avedesk.exe"

I get a popup saying:

C:\Program Files\AveDesk\AveDesk.exe was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

C:\Program Files\AveDesk\AveDesk.exe does not appear to be a .DLL or .OCX file.

What am I doing something wrong?

regsvr32 is for dlls/ocxs only.

Run Avedesk with /regserver argument.

There should be a .cmd file with avedesk in the same folder which does the trick

when double clicked.

Is that what you meant? Unfortunately, I still get the same error with AveFocus .

Additionally, I dont' see any .cmd file in the AveDesk folder (I have show hidden files on, and showextensions on). I used the .zip download of AveDesk, redownloaded it and the .cmd file is not there either. Is it only in the .exe release or something?

It seems reallly slow. I am used to my computer performing quickly (it was bought to be a gaming machine) so maybe it's just because I am pampered? I can see it drawing the objects one by one after it fades completely. Is this how it should work?

Hey Ave, I think AveDesk/AveFocus are malfunctioning with multiple-monitor setups...

I saw a guy back on page 2 or so that had 2x1600x1200 (that's a LOT of pixels... whoa...) and he said that AveFocus was taking a long time to come in. I'm having the same problem...

I have a 1280x1024 and a 1152x864 and AveFocus is sorta struggling to animate each desklet in... takes a minute before it figures it all out.

edit: Another Multi-Monitor issue: my primary monitor is actually on the right, so my desktop starts on my left monitor and extends onto my primary one. (I'm using nVidia's TwinView monitor setup, not the standard Windows one). When AveFocus comes in, sometimes widgets will be placed with the left monitor erroneously taken into account, sometimes it will make the error then fix it right away, and sometimes it will appear normally. Same problem occurs when dragging widgets around on the desktop...

is it slow? In my case, I think it's really fast. I just have a Athorn XP +2600 with a Geforce 2 graphic card and running at 1152x864. Installed about 5 desklets - it just took about 5 seconds to display everything - really!!! So happy (and lucky?) ...

Great job, Andreas! Unfortunately, running this app painfully reminds me of how slow my laptop is (Sony VGN-A190). I'm experiencing the same snail-pace fade issue that CAClark and others are. I would like to put in my vote not only for acceleration (like to the same speed as Entbloess) but also the option to disable the fade entirely.

I've converted 3 of my friends already to using AveDesk and I'm working on getting them to use AveFocus.

Just two small (hopefully) requests for the next version (if there's going to be one). The ability to choose what F-key activates AveFocus, and the ability to remove the tray icon.

Does anyone have the pre-animation version? I'm thinkin it might be quicker because its not smooth enough atm, even on my AMD64 2GHZ with an nVidia 5200. The konfab one doesnt animate, and is fast, so i'm wondering.
