Status Update July 18th

Just want to give you guys a basic update on what’s the progress with the site.

The Forum Skin

I had originally planned to be finished with it pretty fast, but there have been quite a few road blocks, I started it in an xhtml/css2 (table free) form, but then things became messing in IE. (We love it don't we). So then I had to remake about 12hrs of work into table form, which works perfectly in all browsers and is just as nice. But then came another road block. After I got the basic layout of the board index I was stuck, ran out of ideas to finish it up and the rest of the skin it self. So if anyone would like to help contribute to the design of the new skin please contact me. So far there has been little help. But once things get going again it should be done pretty quickly. I'm still learning how to skin IPB2 its got allot of and things which can make our skins much more dynamic for each user.

The Main Page

Yesterday you guys could see the main page was taken offline. Why you ask? I planned on moving aqua-softs virtuanews to another script. Reasons being we can not wait for it to be updated so we're moving ahead, I will not be renewing the virtuanews license so enjoy it while it’s up (temp.). We will be moving to b2evolution, which is a blogging script. Which is perfect for this site if you ask me. We are going to try and do what we did a few years ago. 1 or 2 big news posts with a summary of what’s news and what’s going on rather then 50 posts about 1 skin. That will come a bit later once stevie finishes up the template on that.

The Other Stuff

There are still plans to add email, a different type of gallery, updated wiki (current one is confusing), and my favorite thing to come, a customizable home page. Where you guys can set your own links even feed your own rss into it so it will become your ultimate homepage. (just like http://home.phong.com/).

If you guys have any comments or suggestions to help make things better please let us know. We love feedback since we're not getting any :P.

Sounds cool! Don't worry Timmie we can wait for the skin ;)

#191265

well, i made once a theme, but that was more "brushed" style. if u want to check it out, jsut pm. as for the design-evoution, i could try to help, but i guess u´ll first check my style. not 100% apple-like, so... -_-

#191272

i support the "one huge newspost" idea

take a look at my "Customizing Newsflash" posts (that didn`t pick up with other NPs <_< )

#191273

sounds good tim, do u think u could map out What come sooner and what comes later(what has priority). and maybe a tenitive scedual or when u think each item will be up and running.

i know the guessing game is fun and all

ps i still in love with the new title bar.

Mainpage tonight or tomorrow, tuesday at the latest.

Forums maybe a week or two. I'd like a new mainpage first. This forum skin is very usable.

that is also my favorite idea. dont know how you will afford it though... >.<

Nice job Timan. Very nice indeed!

#191290

The new front page concept sounds great, and I've just noticed that clicking on the Aquasoft logo on the bar even brings up a OS X style menu - amazing :)

I'm going to use that AS logo on my VS to replace the apple - much nicer

#191293

Very nice - sounds like it's going to be great. :D

#191300

neat (Y)

#191307

One little question, Timan.

Why don't you use IPDynamic Lite for a front page?

Or something like IPDynamic Lite, one in particular called Unreal Portal. I think you can find it at Invisionize.com, let me see...

Will it be possible to make a home page for each user? and how much bandwidth / hd space will be provided?

#191368

imo, the mouse arrow in the logo gets lost in all the blue, needs some contrast.

the top bar is without a doubt great, i also noticed duckie had it up last week. what's the story with that?

#191379

looks like pac man puking out something.

Because IPdynamicLite is limited, and in order for him to allow news posts, he would have to dedicate an entire forum to it.

With a seperate news page, he can give certain people access to it and also configure it to the look and feel he wants.

I use IPdynamicLite on my site, but lately I've been sick of it too. You really can't configure it unless you mod it and most mods suck.

read his forum, see who helped him.

As for the customized homepage thing I'm going to purchase some more hosting. It will be part of aquasoft but it will also be its own thing. I've been using home.phong for about 4years now and I love it, but I would like to add so many more features to it so I'm going to start my own thing like that.

'Couple of suggestions for the top bar (which is pretty cool): When you click a link in the drop-down menu, having it disappear immediately would be a nice effect (even though it navigates to another page pretty quickly after)

As well, having the dots beside "Log Out..." implies that you're going to get some sort of option when you click it (Such as "Are you sure you want to log out? Y/N"). Might be clearer just to say "Log Out", then there's no ambiguity. You click this link, you're logging out right away, so THERE! :P

Regardless, I like the direction the forum is going, keep it up!

Actually Might add a little box that pops up kinda like in vb3 that confirms you would like to logout. ;)

Unreal Portal is a lot better than IPDynamic Lite. It's much more configurable. If you want to look at it, you can find it at Invisionize.com under the mods section.

Bigger it's not always means better.

I think IPDL with a few added blocks - that's the best combination of speed and functionality.

IMHO, of course.
