It just doesn't do it for me (to steal your wording). Maybe you could have the strips a bit more seperated (ie. bring the lighter colour strip in a bit more).

Ok, after a lot of playing around i have decided, to go a differnt way, one of the designs i had worked on as an alternate version finally grew on me and after a lot of retouches, this is what i have got, it is pretty much final.

That design looks hauntingly similar to NascentGuruism's... Just without such a cool name or site owner

Your old design was beginning to grow on me, and then you pull this. I think version 4 looks like one of the best layouts i've seen in my small life span.

Althought I must admit, that is a pretty sexeh design Sephy me old boy
The newest is definitely cleaner, but it has lost a lot of uniqueness. It now looks so much like the many blogs and blog-like layouts I see every day.
I'll try be among the first to commend you if you can come up with a clean layout that is still quite different from the many.
Good luck, I'm not one to help considering that my own isn't much different either.
ps... I'm trying to find a new layout myself. No idea how long it'll take to make.
