[wip] Seph.ws

Hello Aqua - Softians!

I am redisigning my website, Seph.ws, trying this time to make the switch to CSS2/XHTML (Stevie, you better be ready for me, im working on your design too already ;))

This is what i got so far (in terms of the layout and the overall look and feel of the site.

The homepage:

prevpag2.jpg

In the full preview, the gif shows how the buttons look like when hovered.

A look inside any of the content pages:

Comments and suggestions is what im looking for so yeah, they are appreacited ;)

// Seph

Ps: Background image by ZPODSEVEN, called Tribute to Swiz. Havent yet asked for permission, but the image has not been used yet publicly.

I like the graphics, but they seem too bulky. I would slim it down a little.

#189470

too many pillboxes! looks good in the banner, but repeating it in the orange is grating on the eyes.

the overall design looks like it would be pleasing, though yeah, with that background and banner, the rest should be smooth or minimal otherwise it'll be too 'busy'.

good luck :D

#189472

yeah, the rest of the site is planed to be minimal. The only "heavy" page is the homepage (the one with the yellow pads), I wanted it to be very strong (color and designwise) as a first impression. Any other ideas for the bottom part?...

BTW: the banner is only 14kb of size when saved as a gif...

#189473

Another version i am liking, more on the minimalistic side:

prevpag3.jpg

I will try to make the buttons a bit shorter horizontally, see how that looks, ill keep you posted.

Any more views you have?

#189594

too many textures going on, the matte inkblots, the gloss (and bulky) menubar, the diagonal stripey bgrd... plus if you use the blazing yellow padded rommin --> @_@

i don't know seph, you're asking for opinions, so, i just don't think what you have right now is doing it, man.

#189596

Me likes the more minimalistic one...one less texture pattern to look at like he^ said ( @_@ ) ( :P )

...but I think you could use the colors from the first design in that one without it looking too crazy

#189598

I prefer the minimalistic one, too...

For what it's worth, it still feels far too cluttered, to me - this is probably just what Ji Eun described, to be honest...

And what's the design for my site looking like, so far ;)

#189617

Hey Seph, I really like the one in your first post the best.

THe color combos are really good. Nice Contrast.

#189651

Chalk up another vote for the minimalistic one.. maybe the paddidroomin ones would be better if you could tone down the color of the tiles somewhat? :P

#189658

Ok, this is something i have done so far. I have taken into consideration the fact that the page was too texturized (sorry but i sill like the striped bg and the ink spats) and that it was too colorful and would get you guys eyesoar :P

What i have done too is i have made the buttons smaller vertically and made the text in them also smaller. I like their texture as it makes them stand out and they are easily seen by web viewers that are not as experienced as us (who would find buttons easily even if they arent obvious).

prevpag4.jpg

In the animation i have tried differnt colors for the top banner in both the start page (the one with the pads -remember, those will be there ONLY on the start page-) and the content pages (which i will start to populate as a mockup now)

What do you think?

THank you VERY much for the comments.

#189697

The first is very nice, Anywhere in the world, we know that Restroom. ;)

#189751

Ok, this is the "Portfolio" section of the page, mockup #1.

prevpag5.jpg

What do you think?

Buttons are narrower and images are blue-grayish until you hover over them, after which they turn full color.

#189793

^ Much better!

^^^^^Phew

Heres a mockup of the CV page, what do you think?

http://seph.ws/ul/seph6.jpg <- too lazy to make a preview now <_<

alot better than the previous ;) but i'd still tone the background down a bit, the lines are a bit contrasting

#189959

The font in the header is too plain...

The background hurts my head...

Good work though :canadian:

Thanx for the suggestions. I had already toned down the bg, it was starting to hurt MY eyes too :P. Ill post an updated screenie later on...

What do you guys think of the layout for the CV page? I think it might be too plain.. dunno...

#189986

#189993

Well that is a change of comments!

Thank you Bolero! means a lot.

#189996

seph, the last 2 images look absolutely stunning. I hated the first few, but you've done a great job and have a great color scheme for the last few. keep up the good work

I'm with everyone else about toning down the background a bit. perhaps it also would make things easier if you gave a background the same shadow as the content area table has.

also if you could widen the gaps between the text just slightly, I think it would make the buttons easier to read. right now I have to strain a bit to see what they are.

looking forward to see more progress!

The Changes:

prevpag9.jpg

*Changed the banner

*Changed the BG

*Modified the color scheme (it was too purpleish)

*Expanded the text space in the buttons

What do you think?

#190116

that's much nicer, seph. really. i dig how the 'p' comes down out of the banner, too.

That background isn't nice (try a solid colour).

Maybe add text beneath the circles.

Other than that, it looks good.
