Ok.. me and a few friends are working on an XP Pro CD(retail... so only registed xp pro users can use it), that has everything already skinned... All icons, sounds, wallpapers, and the boot screen, etc, are pre-installed, also with a new aqua-ish installer. Also included are iPhoto, iTalk, Quiktime, and other aqua apps... please write what u think here, or psychoge3k@msn.com

Are these the aqua based apps off the Aqua-soft boards?
It's a great Idea for people to start with. 
I already have my own mod cd. 
-It used cmd line scripts though... one click and everything is modded. (yes everything).

I'm not too sure how many people here actually own xp...

hmm... we did a windows installer to do it, but its not the way to go. We want it to be an Out Of Box Experience. so on the first bot, it shows the Apple boot screen, then the Aqua Welcome screen. U can still use corp files, but I don't support piracy (at least when M$ is watching me). The main purpouse is for mac users/lovers and ppl who like the look of OS/X to feel at home on the windows platform. Also can be a full install or upgrade over xp, so u get the best of both worlds . I hope u like it, cause we need support to keep going. Its not as easy as it seams. Also, thanx to the ppl who make those aqua-apps, like quiktime and iPhoto, iTalk, AquaFinder, etc. They will be included for sure.

Yes it has SP1 built in. It's a full XP cd... Autorun almost finnished
i made a script to aquafi... xp after installing windows.....but installing windows in a aqua interface would be cool.. y dont u post a guide... atleast post some screenshots!!!

Sounds great! but how do you plan on distributing these? I would think that you would need to make a deal with Microsoft, who would surely say no. Basically, just explain to me how this is gonna work! if you do it though, I will consider buying one!
I'm already owning a customized Windows XP installable CD. I've done this a few weeks ago. Just install and enjoy.
PS: It's a german Windows XP, not an english one and I'm not going to share it because I don't want trouble with Microsoft...

What about XP Home edition? 
Wow, wait a minute!! How can you make a custom XP installation CD? I think it's better to teach people how to do that than think to distribute a modified XP, so we won't have issues like piracy (which can bring some serious troubles for the forum). Just my two cents...

actually..
i think they could get away with distributing it.. for free.. or only shipping.. if they don't give you a CD Key.. that way you'd have to have owned a copy of XP to install it..
or look up a CD key (which would be Iliegal on the part of the end user)
This is Definetly Illegal... distributing the i386 install files for XP regardless if there is a key or not, is Illegal.
What I recommend you do if do a tutorial write up
of how to make a customized cd with all the aqua enhancements.

I agree, just release a CD with aqua programs on it (with permission) and maybe an auto installer. Also, a tutorial. I wouldnt go distributing Windows, cant end well.
Ok... Here are aome points/answers
1. The cd will be free to download, BUT u need a purchaced XP Retail key.. I don't like piracy.
2. I want the aqua look out of the box, including the installer.
3. The project will be done mainly to learn more about how windows works.
4. Pro will be done first, Home will be based on demand.
I am working on the install now, and i will post some screenshots as soon as i make the website .
Anything else?, I'd love to hear your feedback.

Btw, regarding the legality of it, remember #betas Windows Titanium release? It should be more legal than those Winbeta's x-in-1s, cause we WILL NOT give out keys to anyone...

also.. seeing as how the court ruled that the sourcecode / tutorial that allowed DVD's to be read on NON-wIntel systems.. as illegal.. wouldn't that also make any tutorial that modifies Microsoft's Source Code also illegal ???
Yes this sounds like a great idea, but I would definitely change a few things or if you really want to make a CD then have people pm you for an ftp site or something. This is not totally illegal because you are not going to sell it or anything. If you sold it, then I would be worried. I definitely would keep it on the down-lo though just in case. Well that's my 2 cents, I don't know every copyright laws or anything. I would personally just make a tutorial on a website, that way you couldn't get in trouble, and let the end users change their own XP CD's. Distribute the custom logins, and boot screens and such and that's it, we can reshack everything.
how would you know that we have a registered version of XP ? how will it be installable ? is it just an upgrade for those who have XP, or can it be installed under DOS ?
Yeah, I could just give you a random key and you wouldnt know that its real. I can then Hack the registry in the aqua-xp to make it think im registered (not hard to do) and then I have WindowsXP Pro for $0 and you are in trouble.
Also, this will take the fun away from all this aqua stuff. I have enjoyed collecting different aqua tidbits, and it tought me a lot of things about my computer. What kind of community would we be if everyone just downloaded this and never had to talk about Aqua stuff they want to do to their computers.
I just dont think this is right. All you have to do is distribute a disc with all the hacks, and let the people do it themselves. Why does it have to be "out of the box". Im sure every single stray windows flag isnt removed and every picture isnt hacked, so its not like your going to forget this is windows. I mean, jeez, you want backups of the non hacked DLLs anyway, in case you want to go back.

i am thinking of replacing the apple logo with a mono-color aquified win logo... cause its wrong to make it look like a rival OS... The origonal files and ones with apple logos will be included on the cd. and contrasutra, u would be in trouble too cause u r the one who used a non ms key and hacked the reg 
Unless you could implement some other 'security' features other than xp's, I'm afraid it would be pretty hard for you to keep this thing exclusive to registered users...
