Ipb2 Skin Ideas

Timmie asked me to make a mockup of what I thought A-S could/should look like now

that we know somewhat the looks of Tiger...so I made this. Click thumbnail for larger.

We are trying to make it easy so we can have a skin up here. ;) What do you think?

I just updated this. I took some ideas into consideration and used some of magbi9's ideas as well. The icons he has (I am trying to get from him lol) would stand right next to the aqua-soft logo on the left, like a control panel. Like it?s

Yea, either use the new brushed windows (for the "all-new" apps) (http://images.apple.com/macosx/tiger/image...s1_20040628.jpg) or the new regular windows (which are the same as the old...) (http://images.apple.com/macosx/tiger/image...op_20040628.jpg) methinks. mode>

Still looks very lickable. ;)

That was what I was going for. What does it need more?!

And I like the caption buttons. Why don't you. Other than telling me you don't like something give me another option and a reason why you don't like the previous way. That can help me understand and work with it.

The glyps/whatchamacallits don't look 1:1 ;)

I'll try to combine the new title bar dealie with the old cap buttons (which are the same as the new ones) in PS and see how it goes...

Well the glyps/whatchamacallits don't look 1:1 at all ;)

Hehe, yeah, they were taken from the "photoshopped" panther screenshot at apple.com/pr

and im out for the night, gotta get some sleep, night guys.

with replaced dealies (lowish-quality--free image host :-P)

Not bad, I don't like the iChat style new post in forum indicators though. Maybe also make the search icon in the top right the bright blue colour so it's more obvious?

#184020

Nice work, Lou...

To be honest, I think I prefer Lou's glyphs.

The one thing I would ask, though, is can we get a rollup button tic-tac-thingumy?

I know it wont' be 1:1, but it'd be really nice to have, as IPB2.0 supports it natively...

Also, I vote for the removal of the "Forum Led By..." bits. It's kinda obvious who leads the forums - mods and admins, with the exception of the developer's forums, where their name is right there on the front door.

Also, what about having an Apple button in the top-left, except rather than be an Apple button, it'd be an Aqua-Soft logo? ;)

That is f****** great Lou! I love that! The only niggle I have is the Close/Min/Max Btns, shuld be more Panther'y than whatever it is now ;)A bit more like Keith's :chair: And I also agree about the Search button being brighter. I'm wondering, would it be possible to have a little dropdown box from the Search button just like Spotlight? Like this

#184040

I certainly like the Skin - as mentioned, dont like the ichat style baloons though. But something in that style maybe cool even still. eg, glossy colourful, - eye candy... LOL

It is possible, just needs someone that knows javascript to put the code in a popup (kinda like javascript menu's).

And Stevie BM, your suggestions are good. I vote for them.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, Javascript or such like... It's just being able to implement it... It would be cool if we could get it, but nvm if we can't

#184060

ooh, nice Lou :D Probably the best i have seen of IPB-skins for quite a good time ;)

To me, it looks like you have changed the logo a bit, am i right or is it the same old logo? Not that its bad, i just wonder :)

I can't remember how well form elements work with popup layers, but if its gonna be done i have a feeling Stevie may prefer to use CSS rather than javascript.... but yeah. nice idea :)

Damn, I need to remember that CSS has this function. It may still need javascript to "show" and "hide" the area that pop's up.

The only issue (most likely the same if it is javascript) is that the positioning is different in IE compared to Firefox compared to (sometimes) Safari.

How on earth did you guess, Deej? ;)

And for what it's worth, I'm going to try my damndest to get A-S to be XHTML/CSS2 compliant ;)

Be patient, Grim, we're working on it as fast as we can...

Don't forget that we have work and things to worry about.

Do you really want your aqua back so badly that you'd be willing for us to release a badly made skin that we'd not put effort into? :P

#184104

It's look very nice Lou, good work.

@ Stevie: Oh, I don't know how I guessed... I just had a feeling ;) Plus, as a bit of a web guru myself, its how i would do it.

Oh, and kudos on trying to make AS XHTML/CSS2 compliant... Are you looking at transitional standards or strict? I'm guessing the table structure could be awkward...
