Brand New System Files

Okay yeah, there seem to be bitmap problems I'm having. I don't know why considering I'm using Photoshop 7 and was saving them as 32bmps with Alpha. So for now if it bothers you that much ResHack the files and fix them yourself until I get them fixed. Instead of fixing one and reuploading all the time, I'll try to fix them all and upload them later tonight. Other than the bitmaps is everything else okay?

#12327

which dll contain the monitor pic in system properties?

#12329

Cool job i am going to try them now

#12332

It's not a dll, it's the sysdm.cpl file. I checked the original windows bitmap and it says it was an 8bit color bitmap. It sure as heck looks 32 bit to me. Although I think I know why I had a problem with that particular image. The bitmaps with the black background however I can't figure out.

EDIT: If anyone knows how to properly create those toolbar bitmaps, has bitmaps I can use or anything like that please let me know. I want to fix the shell32 as soon as possible.

this one work for me.

Thanks digitheatre, it worked for me as well. What exactly do you do to get it to work? Do 32bit bmps have to have black as their background or what? How do you get the toolbar bmps in shell32 to work properly. I'm using Photoshop7. I really want to figure out how to make the bmps come up with their alpha so if you could explain what I need to do and exactly what format I need to save it in that would help a lot.

Thanks

Thanks very much. I've actually seen this tutorial before when I was looking up info about bitmaps with alpha channels a long long time ago. For those of you that have patience, I would wait until tonight to download the zip file so I can fix the bitmap problems I'm having. Thanks everyone for your help.

#12340

We're all very patient flayakite. Thanks for all the great work.

#12346

#12348

temporarily fix the files but will patenly wait for the new files and once they're all fixed i will host them

#12356

Okay everyone I'm working on fixing the files as I type this. I would have had them done by now but between flirting with the cute girl on the floor, ordering pizza, and watching The Two Towers on DVD (I have connections, don't ask), I hadn't really been working on it. I'll let everyone know as soon as they're done though, which should be within the hour. Thanks for everyone's patience.

#12511

Alright I don't know why this isn't working, but I cannot get these stupid bitmaps to work right with alpha channels, even after 3 hours of trying just about EVERY way I can think of. So in that case I have zipped up the psd files I created for shell32 so if anyone knows how to create the bmps the right way please create them and send them to me at: flyakite19@hotmail.com OR ckite@bradley.edu

Download the PSD files here:

http://students.bradley.edu/~ckite/toolbars.zip

Credit will definitely be given to whoever does this because no matter what I do, what tutorial I follow or anything like that NOTHING works. The way Microsoft does it involves GIF Movie Gear but it never has a checkbox for BMP/DIB and 24-bit with Alpha" like the tutorial says below.

"To save a strip as a 32-bit image, drag a strip into GMG. Remove any blank frames. Go to File->Export as->Filmstrip. In the Film Export dialog box, check that BMP/DIB and 24-bit with Alpha is selected."

So if anyone could figure that out please do so and send them to me so I can upload the FINAL final zip set and this nightmare will be over with. Sorry for all of the problems everybody. (For anyone that develops software please NEVER use 32bit bmps. Find some other way of going about transparencies, lol).

Thanks everyone,

~Flyakite

EDIT: On a side note, when I replaced my old Iceman shell32.dll with mine to test it, then restarted and rebuilt the icons, I noticed that the folder icons were A LOT crisper and cleaner, and that navigating files and folders was faster.

Can any one tell me where to get the system files for winxp final, without sp1 or any updates? i tried iceman's site, but none of the downloads seem to be working. i cannot update my xp cause i have a dial up link, and it takes too much time to do it.

thanks

Thanks mikegraphik, that explains a lot now :) .

By the way everyone I know the link to the files is down. I'm redoing some of them and will NOT post them until I have tested them all and they are working up to spec. Sorry for the troubles some of you are having. Hopefully the issues will be fixed very soon.

Ya, I only started reading this thread like today. And was tempted to ask why the link was down, but didn't.. In anycase, I can't wait... I'm very excited to see the turn out of this project. btw, thnxs flyakite for your hard work. ;)

#12950

the link to download the new system files is down, could anyone hook me up?

#12983

Alright everyone, I am FINALLY finished!!! I have had major problems with the files I first posted so I decided to redo ALL of them again and test them one by one as I was going, and I am finished. Noon until 4am, but I'm done.

(BTW this is my 3rd time doing this in a month. The first time I did up to 128x128 but only in XP color format, which really messed with stuff and file sizes were huge. Then the second time a had a bunch of problems, and so I redid them again and everything finally works. 3rd times the charm I guess)

A couple of things though:

1) Toolbars not skinned yet (that is where a lot of my problems were, so until I get it figured out either use Y'z Toolbar or ResHack it yourself if you can get it to work)

2) Speech control panel icon not changed (I'm not sure where it's located, if you know please tell me and I could fix it in a minute)

3) Logoff not skinned but shutdown is (also a problem I had before, when I get it fixed I'll let everyone know)

Other than that that is it. The icon quality is amazing by the way. The folders are incredibly sharp and clear as you can see in these screenshots:

Control Panel

Thumbnail Folders

Shell32 icons

Copying Progress AVI

NOTE: Read the included README before you do anything. I will NOT be held responsible for anything that happens to your system as a result of user error.

Now what you've all been waiting for..... the link!!!

Flyakite System Files

Enjoy Everyone!

P.S. Let me know if anyone has any problems or suggestions.

#13001

hey, good job flyakite!

i wanna ask if you could authorize me to put your icons in french XP dll, & distribute them on my website...as i've already tweaked my system with i would like to make my fellow countrymen having them too...

regards,

ieub

Anyone is more than welcome to use the icons in these files for other languages of Windows or for your own use. Keep in mind however that only a few I actually made. The rest I just extracted from OSX and a few Iceman made as well.

Also, anyone can host these files as well if they would like. That would actually help me out because I am pretty much out of web space now.

Thanks,

~Flyakite

#13034

cant get the links to work :( it appears the server is down.

#13091
