What we should do, is everyone month or so. Have a little programming competition.

Say, on the first of the month, we decide we need a new iChat clone. Then 5 developers or so each go off and make whatever they can in the month and at the end of the month, previews of all the apps are shown.

I beleive this would encourage really good competition which would result in more apps and better apps.

Anyone agrees?

Brilliant idea Alilm - we have desktop of the month - so why not app of the month?

Get people to vote on what they want to see - then developers can see what they come up with...

I think it will result in really worse apps. Development needs a lot of research and quality invested in it. Ah well what the hell- who gives a **** when it rains...

edit: Why no groups-project? :sadwalk:

Ah so. But you've got to remember than most developers are 'lazy'. Well, not really lazy, but they need a lot of motivation to keep on a project. Something like a contest might just supply some of said motivation.

well why not have teams or developers???

I dunno - I just think some kind of motivation would be good..... how about a AquaSoft award thing?

btw - sorry for the thread hijack

Its also the fact that they all seem to code in different languages - C++ etc

TBH I think its better to have lots of different ideas and developments to push the boundaries, instead of creating one app - we currently have over 5 all with different features and ideas.... which will eventually evolve into 1 or 2 super programs.

Thats true, I agree with you there, but dont think its a bad idea for developers of these programs to share idea's coding languages differ, but I think a good programmer will know his own language and adapt what ever the idea is.

For example in the 'real' finder app, the side bar is actually collapsable. NO ONE has done this YET. This I think is a pretty neat feature on ifinder too, making more room for the folders view panes.

I think if the best idea's are all taken from each of these 5 programs at the end of the day then YES you will have a Super App ! - combining the elements of each of these projects, would produce a more closer clone of ifinder I think :)

JMO (again) :D

i`m very satisfied with NextPlorer, thank you very much :D

Can`t wait till vneuman releases 1.5 so i can start making skins for it!

we need to catch up those Looca guys ;):P

#145960

oh sure - I was using this app before Pantoni's.. what swinged it for me to use his program was the delete and new folder button on his version. Kind of handy to have.

Once the new version with the lables is out I will certainly try the new version again :) - just stuck for choice... you guys spoil us too much ;) LOL :P

with what alilm said, i think its better that people work at there own pace, and i dont really think this should be about compatition. everyone does awsome work. hell im still using tig4's finder.

we dont want to give people the idea that there apps aren't good(say we do have a compatition hows the developer in last place gonna feel), cuase they might stop working on them. or stop working all together.

my 2 pennies

hmm yep quite true as well... no one likes last place...

Please don`t make repeating requests.

Now, by what I have heard, this release is going to be an explorer replacement. Does this mean that my computer will no longer load explorer.exe as the default shell. If that's the case than hats off to you!!!

I definately agree - Explorer is more than just a file browser on windows anyway isn't it?

My first stop for doing any file operation/browsing is with this app.

- Can you explain what a real panther finder does when the file name gets too long?

Right now, I just cut off the fine name to fit in the label as you can see  ( and not well aligned , which will be fixed)

Thanks guys

I've explained what happens to the text when it wraps and stuff in this image:
