[preview] Nexplorer With Panther Color Labels

nexplorer1.5.jpg

Hi guys,

the next version of NeXplorer will feature the Panther color label. Not HTML work around but REAL ONE, so it works for every directory you have!

Look at the screenshot above. The color labels are poorly made by me and the texts are not well aligned but it works! (It uses very little resource)

The status of the nexplorer 1.5 to be released next weekend.

- Color label (80 % : Someone give me good resources please! )

-Complete Drag-n-Drop features in the shortcut pane

(Now you can rearrange the shortcuts in a few quick mouse movements) (100%)

-Complete PNG support (100%)

- Search feature ( 70%)

- Better skinning ( 50%)

I had to completely recode the file list view part to implement the Panther label but I guess it was worth it :)

Conflict with Mobydock should be also gone because I got rid of the stupid tool tip.

The reason I post this preview is not to make you antsy :) but to get some help from real Mac users.

- Can I get some resources for panther label?

- Can you explain what a real panther finder does when the file name gets too long?

Right now, I just cut off the fine name to fit in the label as you can see ( and not well aligned , which will be fixed)

Thanks guys

I'm not a Mac user... not at the moment.

But great work. Looking very nice. ;) Keep it up.

I think it would be good to configure it so that when filenames are too long the text size decreases. Looking forward to this!

You know what would be a good idea (at least imho).. Being able to use Avedesk labels in NeXplorer! Would this be possible? It'd be convenient and also give us a large range of choices for labels....

It would be really nice if I can somehow use hybridrainbow's labels.

I haven't used the hybridrainbow label with AveDesk. ( Actually, I don't have much experience in using AveDsk )

Can you tell me how to use it?

I think I should proably get permission from hybridrainbow or/and Andreas before I use it in my app. Is Hybridrainbow reachable?

#145639

Both of them frequent this site quite a bit. Shouldn't be hard to get in touch with them. ;)

Hmm, I think it would be really hard to read if the label keeps shrinking .

Is that the way a Panther finder works?

Maybe I should make the item spacing in the listview variable?

Any ideas ?

Here's the thread for HybridRainbow's release of the Panther labels. He just released the iChat Bubble ones today.

As for Avedesk, you simply double click on your desklet (after adding it), choose the "Label" tab, then choose the label you want. The labels are pngs.

It'd be nice if we could choose any of the vast variety of Avedesk labels for NeXplorer.

Well, what the labels do is it adjusts to the length of the file/folder name. If the file/folder name becomes too long, it goes to the next line and the label does the dohickey shown below (sorry for the crappy quality).

That would be incredible. I'd love to use HybridRainbow's iChat bubbles in a finder. The little beauties have already given my desktop a big facelift

It doesn't work like that in Panther. What Panther does (I think) is that the files and folders have enough horizontal and vertical space between them...so you can have a long-ass name without worrying.

As far as I remember from yesterday text gets cutted at the end an filled with dots.

It looks something like this: "thisisjustanexam...."

But you can always enlarge the columns in order to read the full filenames.

Maybe I can get you some screenshots on monday, when I'm at work again...

cheers,

It's my favorite! Thanks fot making such a good program :D

#145771

This is looking great! :D Real Panther labels is going to be a dream, looking forward to use this ;)

One thing i think you should think more about, is aligning the buttons and the panel more like the real Panther one. Look at pictures from the real finder, and i hope you will understand what i mean :)

#145772

Hey vneumann, I'm here, how can I help with the labels

#145852

truly nice work :) I hope you have spent time working on other things too ? - I quite like the idea of having buttons to making a new folder and the delete button on the program. (like with a certain other finder clone)

You know you giuys all should work together - honestly. You all have great idea's and combined would make a brilliant windows explorer replacement I am sure !

I like pantoni's program too - between you to I think you could come up with a cool app ! - JMO

it has been discussed before but since developers are persons not robots :P, they each have their own personalities, habbits, free time etc.

They will join forces where they think it`s usefull, otherwise, they won`t.

I think vneuman made an incredible program, and it`s been my choice since day 1.

For all the people offering help, i think a PM would be most usefull.

Patience is the mother of virtues -_-

Its also the fact that they all seem to code in different languages - C++ etc

TBH I think its better to have lots of different ideas and developments to push the boundaries, instead of creating one app - we currently have over 5 all with different features and ideas.... which will eventually evolve into 1 or 2 super programs.

#145874

my point excatly :D

competition is what drives improvements and evolution.

It brings innnovation and, in the end, more features to end users :)
