What Laptop?

I want a new laptop but I can not decide what to get

#129093

I think the decision is up to you, i don't think you should take what most people want to, but what YOU want!

but if I could get one of a,b,c I would go for option a! a G5 laptop is going to take a long time!

#129095

Are you being realistic here? That 17" Powerbook with that much RAM would be so damn expensive, you must have money pouring out of your ears!

I dunno, guess I'm just too poor to even afford the 12" iBook! :D

#129098

id go for none of them, id choose the 15'' alBook any day over the 17''

I think I'd tend to agree...

I'd go for a 15" alBook or something in Ferrari Red... Or something from Sony.

At the end of the day, though, the final decision should be based on your needs, and not ours.

something in Ferrari Red...

I would agree with stevie totally here... We tested one of these at the magazine a while back and they are damned nice laptops! Sexy as hell, and have some really nice kit in them as well. I would love to be able to take one of them babies home with me.. And actually the price is pretty reasonable considering the punch it packs... But, alas, I am waay too poor at the moment to afford a new laptop lol! (Ahh... the trials of a uni student!)

Go for that Acer, dude... It wil rock your f*ckin' socks off!

Cheers,

No, acer? really?

i had an acer cd writer once, it died, i called Acer service and they said, no, sorry, acer does not manufacture cd burners, i looked at the thing, i saw acer.. and i told the guy, look, i can see the acer logo... he said, sorry, cant help you...

Since then ive seen 5 differnt people's acer drives get fux0red

#129124

The company has changed quite a bit since then... And whilst I can't speak for Acer's tech support guys.. I can say without a doubt that the laptop is shweet!

Seph... Sorry to hear about your bad experience, btw... Always saddens me when a computer company acts like that.

Cheers,

There is not a definitive answer for that type of question. First off, you are having a Microsoft vs Apple debate here, which is not good. That debate is usually concluded in what you do, what you have been working on for the majority of your life and what it will be used for. And then you have the question on predicting when the G5 pBook will be coming out. We don't know if Apple knows when they are going to be releasing it.

I vote waiting for G5 laptop.... <_<

I prefer a iBook 12" for travelling with it......And I seriously thinking about buying one.....If my bank agree...

i didn't know that ferrari was in the laptop business these day... ;)

i voted for the alienware, i'm a pc man myself... that or the sony stevie linked to are great computers. (i always wanted an alienware myself... no $, no honey :( )

but the real decision will come down to whatever your neighbor's dog tells you to get (i just finished watching a documentary about the son of sam)

What Seph said. So I can't vote. Unless you're a serious mobile video editing person, I see no need for the 17". A friend of mine has one, and let me tell you, it is massive. And you'll be waiting awhile for the g5 laptops, the g4's have been out for less than half a year, right? As a recent switcher and near-total convert, I naturally suggest OSX.

my vote is for a 12 inch laptop, no matter what kind you get... I am a big advocate of portability, and my 15 inch dell is nice, but its big and bulky. I would suggest a 12 inch ibook or powerbook, whichever one fits your needs more

#129529

yes a 12inch laptop would be great for portability. but this will basicly be a desktop replacement that I will only take back and forth from college to home on vacations and what not

#129547

ok then, 17" pb it is. wow, you lucky devil.

^oxymoron^

If portability isn't an issue, then I'd say 17' powerbook all the way! We have one here at work and its gorgeous, too bad its for the lead developer. I'm only using the 12' here at work.

the laptop of my choice is an 12" ibook...or powerbook...if only the money would be in my pocket....

but the best choice if u dont want an apple is compaq!!!

try to get one of the laps for business customers....they are great...i know, i have one of these...

If you're looking for good notebooks with excellent pricing and top quality service I'd recommend Sager notebooks but buy them from a dealer called PCTorque. They have EXCELLENT service. My friend bought a laptop from them and their service on it has been unbelievable.

Check it out

Holy sh!t Batman!!! Those are some really slick lookin' laptops.

hey fellow aquasoft members. I bought an alienware laptop about a year ago ("championship white"). Its still not absolete :D

its a 2.4gighz P4 with 1gb of ram and 60GB HD and all the fixins.

its great and all but luggin 11lbs its not my bag of beans. But its a great desktop replacement. The only thing crappy about it is Alienware (AKA Sager) uses its own proprietary power cord. Then again im complaining about this becuase mine broke

My friend owns a 17inch G4 paid almost 3000$ USD for it. Its a thing of beauty.

But..i dont know what he's claiming its made out of aircraft aluminum? LOL

I personally wont go to MAC any time soon

the only thing im ranting about PC Laptops is WHY THEY DONT MAKE A ALUMINUM CASING LIKE MACS

Why do people "shout" Mac? Mac is short for Macintosh. Its not an acronym like PC (personal computer).
