I think that an online relationship is pointless. You can be friends with people through the internet, but certainly not anything more. Having a relationship online would be having a relationship with text. That is all your getting. Until you actually see the person, go to a physical place, and/or show affection to eachother, how can you say that it is a relationship? Online relationship have no integrity, people can lie without getting caught, and I heard a statistic not long ago that over 50% of the people that have online relationships are also involved in another releationship (either married or have a commited boyfriend/girlfriend). To me, I could never really trust an online relationship, there are too many that the person is lying.

you know what they say, the only one you can trust completely is yourself (and God if you're religious).
but also, point of clarification, what i meant was i don't see how one can consider a relationship legit if there isn't physical contact, albeit intimiate contact. and spare me the 'mental and emotional connection we have online' cause i just don't find that tangible as a real relationship.
but then again, i'm pretty shallow, i'll admit it.

Exactly. Some dude did a study and found that like 93% of everything we communicate is nonverbal (ie not directly converyed through words, leaving things like facial expersions, tone of voice etc). How can you have a relationship that lacks like 93% of human communication?

I have an "online girlfriend". I'm not 'pathetic'. I'm not 'desperate'. In fact in the past few weeks I've turned down three girls. I love how many people here seem to think things like this are text-only. Obviously there are no such things as voice-chats or video-chats. In fact I'm surprised some of you even bothered with such immature comments. An old friend of mine had the exact same treatment from fifteen year olds.
Relationships can survive on the phone. By letter. Guess what, you can do both those things on the internet. Try broadening your minds, some of you. You might not look like morons next time.

How can a video or voice chat actually provide anything close to a 'loving' relationship. You could do that on a phone, but you dont tend to ring up random numbers and say "Hi, wanna date over this phone".
I think the basis of any relationship is interaction and trust. Two things you can never be sure of on the net.
Plus es.xxi, don't mean to be rude or anything but you're completely dismissing other people's opinions, that is pathetic. How hyprocritical to tell us to 'broaden' our minds, when you can't listen to us...
Yes, a relationship can continue long distance, but in most cases, a physical meeting has already been established. And it all depends on how much both of the participants want to make it happen. I am not saying that you shouldn't do it, I should have made my self more clear on that. I am saying that I wouldn't do it, I don't have that much trust in people in general to play with emotions like that.

So from what you say a relationship is PURLY what you say to another person?
Know how many people ive talked to online, and once i meet them (happens allot cause i chat with my old freinds new freinds back home) i dislike them? No its not based on physical aperinces or anything like that, i just dont like them. Its easy to be liked online because we can formulate opinions about people and make them up to be perfect in our heads. We dont see any of there flaws, like the fact that they lie constantly, or that they pick there nose, or that they dont take a shower more then once a week. We dont know any of that and anything that we do know is what they want us to know. How many people here have lied to someone online about something important about there persionality?
True relationships CAN survive on the phone, but they cant exist soley on the phone. Im sorry but you cant be in love with someone that youve never held hands with, its only infatuation, simple as that.
