Stash,
Why dont you try what Moby is doing and convert the processing to the gpu instead of the cpu? Plus, this is what Apple really does anyways right?? We dont want to put that much strain on our cpu's when we're just running a simple screensaver. Sure, its nice, but we want our cpu's to last. Use what apple's method is. Put the strain on the gpu, and releave the cpu of all its stress. CPU's are longer lasting, they are the more constant part of our computers. We want to keep them in good condition for as long as we can. The gpu's can always be replaced and are always being replaced. The cpu is the computer. That is why so many people got all excited when moby announced that he we making a dock that supported dx9 and the processing was fully transfered to the gpu. I think you should at least look into it. Maybe you should talk to moby. He should be able to give you some tips. Applying to your screensaver effect shouldn't be much different than applying it to Moby's dock. Look into it.
