Explorer Toolbar Mod

After many unsuccessful searches for a registry alternative, I finally got around to modding the toolbar in browselc.dll with Reshacker. I couldn't be happier!

Edit: original image was accidentally deleted.

The hack lost functionality of the "Favorites" menu in Explorer (not a big deal since I don't use Favorites in WinExplorer) and the "Tools" menu (again, no big deal: the Folder Options toolbar button still works).

Clicking the double colon brings a drop-down menu that holds all the toolbar menus.

In IE, the "Bookmarks" and "Tools" menus both work, but I use Firefox so I wouldn't care if they didn't.

I took the mod from WinT's Explorer Mod, and was able to cut out useless menus.

Wow, that's a nice bit of modding.

Retaining the key functions of the menu bar has always been the catch.

Well done. I'll give your way a try later in the week.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks, I never wanted to do it again ( I tried a number of months ago) after finding out the Tools menu was disabled.

This time around, I realized the only menu item I used was "Folder Options", which was still functional via the toolbar button.

Thanks for the information ! :smartass:

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the line that appears to the left of the toolbars. The one to the left of the address bar is particularly annoying to see. I want to get rid of them!

So far, 3DCC doesn't edit it, so maybe it's a VS bitmap. In that case, does anyone know what the source is? I've looked through my current .msstyle but I've yet to find anything.

Any help is appreciated.

#114840

anyone know a fix for that. i have the same problem. f in file gets displayed when i lock toolbar >.

#115201

I was woundering how i could change these icons with reshacker?

#115246

The line near the address bar is a part of Vs, if you use TDK Panther 4

you don't have it! But sorry, i don't know the real location!

@ Kite: go here!

;)

Dang, I'll have to give SS GLoss the once -maybe twice- over again. I'm very annoyed with it.

Thanks altoprofilo, now I at least know where to concentrate on.

#115283

I've just discover that a few menu weren't displaying normally... They are not very important but, I'd like to know if it works correctly for you.... <_<

Or I do something wrong

I can tell you what isn't working, "Go to","tools" and "?"

I'll try to fix it, then if you know something tell me...

I haven't found a fix. I believe a discussion over at Wint's site ended with everyone agreeding that XP Explorer was stupid and the problem couldn't be worked around. I haven't found an answer. I'm just glad that the menus do work in IE so that if I ever need to use them (heaven forbid: IE=bad, Firefox=good) than they are accessible. Just the Windows Explorer menus are screwed. Again, no biggy for me. Sorry I couldn't be of any help there.

How do you get the Folder Tree?

Also, I have a problem, how would one remove this toolbar?

haxor_fox,

That's the topic of this thread! kind of. I couldn't get rid of the menus, just make them very unobtrusive.

Go ahead and click on the link I provided in the first post, Wint's Mods.

The linked topic shows you how to stuff the entire menu into a single pop-up menu. I guess you could just delete all the menu contents and see what happens... but I'm not going to try it.

I just stuffed all menus into one and named the single menu "::"

That's as far as I need to go aside from buying Object Bar.

Oh yeah, the "Folders" title was sitting in string table #805 in Windows\shell32\browselc.dll

I had wanted to name it "Folder Tree" for the longest time before I found out about system modding. "Folders" always sounded stupid to me.

#115759

Ahhhhhh! lol, I'll try that tomorrow.

:woot: It's Working! thanks a lot!

Just found out the perfect Finder-look when applied the Metalic-Snow VS:

JoLeLuv,

good work there.

I find myself going back to Wint's modifications site again and again to refresh myself on all that is there. The tutorials are pretty easy to follow and the additional comments below always hold more value as others try out the mods.

I hope haxor was able to accomplish what he wanted. I'd be interested to hear if he tries to just delete the menus all together!

Actually, maybe someone had already tried that, I'll go poking around to see if I can find anything more.

Good luck to anyone else who cares to try this.

Zenzen, pease post your results if you can when you finish up. I love looking at others' system mods.

#115825

you can use my regedit file to move the menubar(file .edit ...).

Hi sketching! Thanks, really cool tip :D

I was looking for this mod a long time...now it's almost perfect!

Can you tell me how did you hide the name "Address" from the toolbar?

It's a Registry hack, or a tweaked file in Reshack?

#115966

haxor_fox,

I made a mistake yesterday, the Folders title is actually in Shdoclc.dll, string #189.

I had pointed you to the A&ddress title of the address bar. So Quantic, go to string #807 in Browselc.dll to change the A&ddress title.

Sorry to anyone who may have been confused about that.

By the way, here's a pretty good list of other files to hack hosted over at Virtual Plastic. This list helped me out alot: VP: hacklist. I can't believe I didn't post this earlier. >.

Can you post a screenshot of what your regfile does exactly, or someone else who has tried this file?
