[tutorial] Emailchecker Docklet-->thunderbird Mail

First of all, download AndreasV's EmailChecker docklet here, and unzip to your docklets folder in your ObjectDock folder.

Now, download my mail .png's here, and unzip these into the "images" folder in the new MailCheck2 folder (the folder created for the mailchecker docklet) in your docklets folder.

I assume you know how to add a docklet to your OD, but if not, click your configure OD icon , click the docklets tab, hilite the MailChecker docklet on the left side and click the 'add this docklet to the dock' button.

Next, right click on the newly added docklet and select configure-->e-mail accounts. Here you set up your account using your mail server and login info. After you have your account(s) set up, right click on the docklet again, select configure-->docklet's behavior. You can select 'Do OD's default attention animation if you wish, do not select play an animation, you can select a sound if you wish, then at the bottom select 'on left-click, do:' and add the path to your thunderbird.exe file in the 'Application" box. Click OK.

Once again, right click on the docklet, select configure-->docklet's images. For 'Image shown when there is no new e-mail', click the 'set image' button and search for the OSXmail.png you extracted into the images folder and select it. Do the same for the next image but select the OSXnewmail.png image.

Don't concern yourself with the Font button, this doesn't seem to work as far as I can tell, so in the 'size' box type 30. Click the Color button and select white then click OK. Alpha should stay at 255. Make sure 'use shadow' is checked, then at the bottom check the 'Use coords instead of alignment' box, set the X coordinate to 78 and the Y coordinate to 8. (You may have to play with these numbers if the number doesn't show in the center of the red badge, but these work for me.) Click OK.

Lastly, right click the docklet and select configure-->docklet's label. You can put anything you want in here, I have just "Mail" in the first box and left the other 2 at their default settings.

That's it! Looks just like a Mac. Click the docklet normally and Thunderbird opens!

i'm using it with avedesk, and it works with mrpostman if you want to get your hotmail through it too(although the mrpostman is a resource hog i think).

Why does everybody keeps calling it Mail.app??? Mail is the program's name, and *.app is the extension of an application in Mac OS X. If we're talking about MSN Messenger we don't say msnmsgr.exe this and msnmsgr.exe that, so why should we with Mail??

And great docklet works for me

Calling it Mail.app makes the distinction, that's all. "Mail" is a very general term.

@realitybath - You can try HotPopper instead, uses very little resources.

thanks again max power, i've changed mine abit to use with the attached png(if anyone prefers a bit less red) for new mails. If you run avedesk at some transparency, it looks good. cya

only problem i have is, when i have dbl digit msgs, it only shows the first digit :-/, tried resizing the font, but that didn't seem to help

This must be a limitation of the docklet itself. I know there is a new beta version 2.2.0 available at dockex.com, this may address the issue.

OMG! 3 years later !!!! I´m having same problem with 2 digits numbers ....

The problem is when i use "cords instead of alignment".

Using align Top, left, etc i don´t have the bug. But in this case font can´t be changed ... HOPE AFTER 3 YEARS YOU KNOW HOW TO FIX IT!
