Microsoft Is Trying To Beat Sony To It

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – For the past two years, Microsoft has established a reputation as a follower in the video game war. When Sony acted, Microsoft reacted – especially when it came to price cuts. Things could be about to change.

, now if you scroll down the page a little, or read the entire thing you'll probably get to this part of the story:

The Xbox's buzz factor is on the rise – and will soar higher if the company opts for a $99 price tag. But it hasn't yet established a reputation that's strong enough for it to sway Sony loyalists. (Not to mention there's a fringe faction that refuses to buy the machine simply because it's made by Microsoft.)

What do you all think of this? Do you think its true. Are you a person that wouldn't buy XBOX 2, just cuz its made by M$?

i woulnt buy an Xbox because a) the controler is ungodly huge the game selection, unless you like 20 football games, is complete garbage c) you cant set components on top of it d)microsoft practices its typical crap with it (ie not being able to play dvds without buying a 30$ remote, while the software is all right there, or the whole autoupdate when going online and whiping out your linux partition automaticaly)

Im more then 100% staisfied with my PS/2

microsoft only has realistic games, my favorites are platformers like jak 2, and rachet and clank, xbox has very few of those, plus xbox crashes alot, and can't recognize discs very often.

If microsoft fixed all those things, i'm sure people would buy it, :sigh: but they probably won't, and even if they did...( :naughty: hint hint) i'm sure that group of people who hate m$ wouldn't buy it.

I play Halo, KOTOR, Splinter Cell, Panzer Dragoon, etc. I dont like sports games.

Yeah, Im a hypocrite, but KOTOR made me do it. It was a jedi mind trick or something.

Actually, I bought an xbox because my PC cant handle Doom 3, and I couldnt upgrade it for less than $200, so I got an xbox instead.

I'm a PS2 boy here. Though, I am noticing that they are starting to go downhill the older they get. Mine hardly plays DVDs anymore, the tray struggles to open so I have to kind of pull it out sometimes, and games take forever to load. Though, I did hear that the newer PS2s have updated media player drivers and a few other minor enhancements.

As for X-Box, bah humbug. Only reason I have one is because my boyfriend plays Halo religiously (all I hear about every day is Halo 2, and I don't have the heart to tell him the release date got pushed back). Oh, and I'm anxiously awaiting Fable. That's gonna be a bad-ass game.

And yeah, I agree, the controllers are huge. I'm still baffled as to why the hell you have to buy a connector to connect the controls! WHY?!?! And the deal about the DVD player, you HAVE to have the controller is just ridiculous.

Microsoft just sucks, plain and simple.

Well I own all three consoles (Xbox, Ps/2, and GC) and all 3 own in there own way but as of recently my xbox has captured and keep my interest...why well cuz I have my Xbox modded and I must say that it is the best investment that I have ever purchased there are so many things you can do with it!! I love it!! (btw I know that the xbox is basically a computer but for the sake of simplicity its a console ) and is playing Halo religiously a bad thing ?

I play movies that Ive d/l off the internet put em in my xbox and play em on my tv!  I love it!!  Ps/2 and Gamecube can't do that (btw I know that the xbox is basically a computer but for the sake of simplicity its a console  ) and is playing Halo religiously a bad thing ? 

, i can do that on my PS2, with my japanese ordered hd, i don't even need a modchip, i just need to restart my ps2, and tell it to boot up with a boot prog, then i can play backuped cd's. I love my PS2, especially my usb keyboard, mouse, and internet. Its sort of a miny computer.

You can run linux on a ps2. And would Sony are the ones promoting it! It's based on kondara linux (similar to Redhat apparently). Cool eh?

The HD is comin out in US in a couple months unless they push it back. I didn't mod mine, i use a boot disc, and the site that i got all my games from i don't remember. I know thats where i got the boot disc though. I'm going to keep searching for it. They claim buying the games is legal as long as they're for backup reasons. Grrrrrrrrr, some prog deleted my history so i don't remember teh site. Its definitly worth it. Dunno about (S)VCD/DivX) haven't tried that. But you have to either use a boot disc or get your PS2 modded to play backup games.

EDIT: i just checked, the hd is comin out in us in march, it'll probably be the same day for other countries.

EDIT EDIT: oh and buy the way, anyone who is planning to order, preorder or buy a hard drive, be aware that you'll need the network adapter.

i'm really thinking of getting an xbox just for use as a media center. i'm more then a little peed off at my ps2 cause i got it modded to do that very thing, to be a media center but i cannot for the life of me get it to boot the media center software.

if you guys have any ideas i would love to hear them. and about having the software boot from the cd with the movie i have too many moview to reburn them all with the progie on it, and also i figure if i cant get it to run by its self then why would it run on the movie disk?

Well, I persnollay thinks the X-Box ownz the PS2, just in term of performance. Did you play Unreal on PS2 ? Sluggy. Also, the PS2 doesn't do antialiasing.

As for developpers, X-Box is great because the mods for porting a game (or a prog) are very few. Look at Stepmania, is has a PS2 and even the sources are made to compile with the XBox SDK.

Also the fact of the HD is not so pointless, you don't have to burn your games to play it (yeah warez is bad).

BUT, the PS2 has a BIG advantage: EYE TOY.

I have PS2 (and a PS/2 ), and a GCN (damn Zelda <_< ), and I am content. XBox is to big for what it needs to be and all the other great games are on the other platforms.
