Please remove the general discussion from the latest additions section on the front page

there are more people that dont want to see it than do

#108332

I agree. I like to chit-chat, but number of 'general' topics makes it hard to dig through all new posts.

#108345

Alternatively, we can have the new posts sorted in categorical order.

#108353

Yeah, i would love to see this too. Too many useless polls etc.

#108365

iAgree!

it has become the lair of stupidness and flame wars (and i`ve seen some idiotic posts even by some members i would have never expected from)

and i`ve got another harsh suggestion for Tim - disable new members registering for some time. things have gone over the line!

i`m on the verge of leaving and i think some other members share my oppinion :(

AS needs more staff!

I don`t think Tim, contra, Stevie and godpunk can handle 12000+ members on their own!

AS is lossing it and i don`t wanna loose AS!

EDIT: I also ask Tim to add some kind of age restriction. I`m NOT generalizing things but there`s a lot of kids (who ask stupid questions/start stupid threads), that really make things worse!

As you said, Unbeliever - lets not generalize but - I agree with you - on all counts:

1. less submissions (with added bonus of dettering leachers)

2. More staff

3. age restrictions (although this would really be impossible to enforce)

Thankyou

[edit]I'm calm, I'm not angry, I'm calm, I'm not angry...must....not...flame[/edit]

:)

#108446

OK... I am definately not going to get involved in any flaming here - I've managed to avoid that since I've been here...

So - I take back the age restriction idea - what about the other 2, Keith? Are they all right by you?

I`m sorry Keith. But if u have read my post u`d know that i wasn`t trying to put all younger memebrs under one basket. I think that age restriction COULD help, not would, solve the problem. And i`m being this grumpy just cause AS has grown on me and i don`t wanna loose it, or see it turn into a mess/sterile forums.

#108466

I see where you guys are coming from, but imposing an age-restriction is by no means any way to curb a problem. For one, many of our developers are young in terms of age, but not in terms of maturity.

But the other two suggestions sound good though.

Maturity is what we like, but have no way of gauging until it's too late.

#108467

The problem is that half of you dont want off-topic stuff, and the other half ONLY wants to talk off-topic (seemingly).

We're trying to compromise. If you dont like Gen Discussion, don't visit it. But offtopic posts wont be tolerated in areas outside of General Discussion.

A-S HAD more staff, and most of them were too busy to do anything. I think we're fine for right now.

lol, we can't disable new member registration, because then i'll look like a hypocrite for complaining about how DT2 does it.

Age restriction? Thats impossible to enforce.

P.S. Godpunk has quit modding for right now.

Contra,

I agree with you, i'm not asking to take the gd threads away, just remove them from the latest discussions space on the front page.

That way, I dont have to see all the asinine posts on the front page, I dont go to the gd threads, only when I see retarded stuff in that spot. The off topic people can have their little niche, since they frequent that forum so often they dont need to see the lates silly poll or whatever on the front page.

Does that make sense?

As for the all the other garbage going on in this thread here with age restrictions and whatnot, open your own fukking thread and "mr. hankey"e in that. Don't take my thread apart with silly suggestions and turn into chaos.

#108497

hmmm - This was fun...

You know - in my country one of our biggest problems is our short fuse...

Guys... Can we not have ONE serious CALM conversation in this forum?!

Oh dear...come on guys... it's not that bad...is it? I love this place...what we (I) need is some good old fashioned English dicipline! And don't post if you've been drinking!

There!...I've said it!

I think what would be nice is two seperate "latest" feeds - one for Gen. Discussion, and one for "other stuff".

Not, of course, that I would use either >.:)

If you guys need more staff I'd be happy to help.

You don't get to be staff by asking.

You get to be staff by becoming a respected, well-known member of the community who respects and encourages respect of the rules, and even then, you're not guaranteed a position.

:lol::lol::lol:

it`s funny to see mods fighting :D

but i thought his offer was sweet :)

PS Does Tim reply on his PMs? Or he`s just ignoring me? :(

#108906

Age restriction would be nice although some kiddo could lie on their age to register. We need matured people here, not some kiddo who keep asking for everything. And it would be nice to have matured mod too....

Alang if you are referring to

or by sucking goku's todger.
, that's actually the funniest thing i've heard all day (besides the screw discussion on /. and Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson saying the whole boob stunt was an accident)

Is 22, working as a part time programmer on enterprise level software, doing a full time degree, and planning on doing a PhD not mature enough, then?

Or does cracking the occasional joke make me immature? -_-

I would also like to know what people have against the current modding team.

It's also interesting to note that some of the oldest members have been the most immature.2>

He might probably just be saying what's good to have? And no insinuation on what's already here. ;)

You guys are doing great. No worries. (Y)
