My App Updates

It's been a long times since I have updated my progress on the aqua apps I’ve been working on so it’s going to post what I’ve been doing for the last month and what I will be doing in the future...

Right now I’m working on AquaTunes with mmanson, I’ve got the EQ pretty much done and I’ve been working on a few other components for it. Here is a screenshots of the things I’ve got done:

at.jpg

For more info on AquaTunes go to mmansons site HERE It's going to be a really good iTunes clone once it is done, mmanson is doing a great job with it!

Also I have given up on development on my iCalc project, and decided to make the source code available for download. The source code is sort of crappy because this was the first VB project I had ever done and I have never taken a programming class before so I pretty much learned by myself when I was making iCalc. The source code has allot of improvements from version 1.1 but it has allot of unfinished things and allot of bugs. But if anyone wants to use the code they are welcome to but please give some credit.

Here is the link to the iCalc source code. (Copy link into address box.)

I have some new projects I have started. A clone of Stickies, Preview, Sherlock, and I'm thinking of starting a Safari project also. I have Stickies almost done, Preview is about 70% done and I have decided to totally rebuild my Sherlock project from scratch so it is only about 5% done.

I will try to keep everyone posted for more news any my new site will probably be up soon, all I need is someone to host my site.

Hi beric,

Nice work!

I have a question related to your iTunes clone and all media player apps in general.

Is there a specfic reason that none of the media player apps can get *shadowed* by such programs as Y'z Shadow and WindowFX 2.0?

That is one of my disappointments in the effort to port the Aqua look to Win XP.

Thanks in advance,

Grusic

First of all it's not my itunes clone it's mmansons.

I'm only helping him, he's doing a great job by the way! :)

And the reason why there are no shadows is because the iapps control dosen't have a shadow option and i believe Y'z shadows can't add shadows to windows without borders like all apps with the iapp control.

im at work now, and im really anxious to try those applis when i get back to a geek mode (home), but GRUSIC isnt it supposed to receive the shadows from wfx2? (i know yz shadows wont apply on those applis) cause i know that in the aqua-controls there was always a feature which supports the wfx2..

if im wrong and beric's applis dont support it individualy so like GRUSIC i would suggest shadows are the whole concept of the difference between the osx and the repulsive puke win32/unix etc. ;)

GOKU :P

and by the way, beric you rule. keep it up and we are always looking forward to see your beautiful contribution!

Hi Goku...

This is the last forum on earth where I would dare get in a OS argument...but...OSX, I'm pretty sure, IS sitting on top of that 'puke' UNIX....it is THE ONE big reason it is supposed to be so solid. The 'aqua' shell is just that...a shell. Supposedly, you can use any x windows shell you wish. Don't know how true that is.

At any rate, while I am no big fan of Apple or MS, I can recognize that the Aqua shell is, visually, one of the most striking interfaces I have ever seen. It is clean, crisp and very well done. (Consequently, there are quite a few things about XP that I like...and prefer...but I do wish the interface was as clean and clear. XP, btw, has been rock solid for me.)

Everyone developing the Aqua clones here deserve a round of applause. From what I have seen, they all do a splendid job. And so what if they are not EXACT copies? The fact that they even come close is tremendous. Kudos to all!

Oh, and I'd be first on the block to buy OSX for my AMD based machine.

And to Jef ... thank you very much for the iApp and Aqua Controls.

Stash...can't wait for the new iPhoto

take it easy bud, i wasnt "attacking" unix in terms of OS but as in the GUI, and look. its dead repulsive and it looks like win 3.11 as a fact

However i didnt say anything about the functionality of it. the osx IS based on unix and i know that real good. Obviously it makes is a perfect os, a perfect aqua interface on a powerfull SYSTEM. So i dont really see what was wrong in what i was saying.

that aqau shell your talking about is what we try to achieve on our pc system obviously. I didnt complain jack, Trust me dude, i wasnt in anyway non-grateful to beric. You thank jef and stash as if WE are forgetting them or like we r not really appreciative. At least it looks like it.

Ask Beric in person how much i would try to bring motivation by helping or encouraging.

and by the way :P , Apple made their lil osx run on the x86 machines, not AMDs :P so i guess you wont be the first on the block to get the osx ;) j/k

anyway, take it easy eh? ;)

Goku,

Sorry if I came off a little strong there...Did'nt mean to imply anything about Stash and Jef either. I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank them myself. I have seen how much you appreciate everyone's work. You, and the others on this forum are part of the reason I visit it so often.

Anyway, sorry for the implications.

And, btw, my AMD machine is X86 based. It's a AMD Athlon XP 2000+. Completely compatible with the Intel stuff (which I have only owned one Intel processor - a 200mhx mmx thing a few years back. Made the switch back to AMD and have not looked back.)

Oh yeah, I LOVE your graphic...very nice.

#8875

Sweet Job beric! I am really looking forward to your apps, they look wonderful!

BTW (side question): OS X86 wont support normal AMD CPUs?? i have a Athlon 1.2 T-Bird, wondering if that will suport it?

#8881

Goku, I would have never expected from you attacking UNIX like that...

let me know if after looking at this screenshot you still considering the The Windows Managers in UNIX like windows 3.1

21688.jpg

there is no 3rd party tool like ObjectDesktop or WindowBlinds or anything like that on that desktop.. it is UNIX pure and simple

Many of the features that you find in OS X are a copy from the UNIX Desktop

oh... and AMD is x86

my bad! :D

regarding your screenshot, it IS very nice though i didnt know it can look like it. If i never knew the OSX aqua interface i would say linux rules bombs.

I can give you a screenshot of my XP skinned like the osx - no stardock products and it will prove its glory as well.

I basically (tried to be a lil funny as well) put down the gui of MS and unix cause they come in a very unartistic design. Now my roomate, who's a programmer, is using the winME box and the LINUX box just as is nothing skinned, while the mac will always look heaven "AS IS".

thats all.

Sorry if i was harsh, but in MY opinion nothing comes close to aqua -.

but again, i appologize for saying puke on unix's layout its a cat's puke more likely (screw MS, it im not appologizing for that ;))

j/k

Would be nice if some talented soul coded a 'real' quartz shell for the win32 environment, fully 32-bit compatable in C, but I'm just dreaming, so wake me up when a Mac is affordable ;) (that 12" powerbook is looking pretty nice, too bad it's only 12" :()
