[help]unable To Use Non Microsoft Visual Styles

Here's the situation. earlier today, my computer was displaying a non-microsoft visual style fine. I turned off my computer when I was leaving work(its a laptop), and I just got back to my room, and I started it up. It got to the logon screen, I am not using fast user switching, so it was the name/password thing, and it had the luna style(which is normal). I logged in, and it displayed the windows classic theme, and I could only switch to luna, no others. I have a patched uxtheme.dll, which has shown no problems in the past. I am using windows xp pro sp1. if I have forgotten any needed info, please tell me

Maybe try to re-patch your .dll manually? Ive had to do that before.

Try this:

1.Manually extract the uxtheme.dll from "uxthemepatcher", copy it and go to C:\windows\system32\dllcache (to reach this folder you'll probably have to type out the address in the windows explorer location bar).

2. Locate "uxtheme.dll" in this folder and rename it "uxtheme.bak". If there is a .bak there delete it first.

3. In C:\windows\system32, also rename "uxtheme.dll" to "uxtheme.bak". Then paste in the .dll you manually extracted from the patcher.

4. Answer "cancel" then "yes" to any warnings from Windows and reboot.

Hope this is how I had to do it.

If you have AutoUpdate on, then you may have downloaded a system update that was installed by itself that overwrited the patched uxtheme.dll. Try installing the patch again.

I had to play with it for a min. Basicly your patched .dll is in there still, its just been renamed.

You can delete files in c:\windows\system32\dllcache\, only the files, not the folder.. this will prevent windows from replacing modded files. It's just a backup folder.. save alot of drive space..

All I do is that I replaced uxtheme.dll with replacer and that was it, works just fine! Also have XP sp1

Yes, replacer copies the file to the dll cache folder as well as the system32 folder, AND cancels the WFP, it's a great little program! (Y)
