I have a Mac DMG disc image file on my PC, and i need it burnt for a friend who has a mac and a burner on his mac. I was woundering.. if i send the dmg file over say msn to him and he burns it on his computer it will still turn out right for him to run on the cd... cause will burning a mac disk image on a pc make it not work for the mac?

I've never tryed that but I don't think it would work. Just to be sure i'd burn it on the mac(using Disk Utility) for sure to work then 
It comes with the mac. It will be in the Utilities folder
You can burn *.toast images on a PC by renaming them to *.iso. However you cannot burn *.dmg files on a PC. It's worth remembering that toast files are just ISOs with a different extension though.
if you can send him the dmg file over MSN all he needs to do is double click it. OSX will mount it with no cd burning required.

If you send him the file via MSN to his Mac, he can mount it on his desktop, just as The Unknown said. He can burn the file straight to a CD, or use the Disk Utility to burn a CD from the image. Either way, he can use it fine.
If you burn the .DMG file to a CD using a PC, he should still be able to use it on his Mac just fine.

I have Roxio's Toast 6 on my Mac, and I noticed that when I right click any file, but most important, when I right click on a .DMG file, there's an option called "Toast It".
If I select that option, how will the burned CD come out as? A CD containing the .dmg compressed file or a CD containing the CONTENTS of that .dmg file?
Also, is it just me or the .dmg format compresses a HELL LOT?
.DMG files are for the most part .ISO with one exclusion.
You can burn a .DMG file on a pc by renaming the extension to .ISO and using something like Nero, but if it's a bootable .DMG, the boot info gets corrupted.
I have tried this many times and get the same results.
What I did find out though, is if a bootable .DMG file is converted to an .ISO on a Mac and then burned on a PC, it works perfectly.
Ok, so let me get this straight. If I right click a .DMG file on my Mac and choose "Toast It", I get a CD containing just the .DMG file or I get a CD with the UNPACKED CONTENTS of that .DMG?
Well I tried it, you can NOT rename a dmg file to iso and then burn it on Windows. All programs give the same error, it's a wrong syntax or something... even Isobuster can't open it... I asked it to a friend of mine and it also didn't work on his XP box. 
Interesting... I've done it multiple times on my XP box. I only rename the extension, so I don't have to browse for it... just double-click and Nero opens.
I use Nero for all my CD burning needs.
Did you specify the file structure when burning?
HFS... not CDFS.
Another way is to just burn the DMG file to a disk, just copy the file to a CD, do not try to extract, then mount the image from the CD on your Mac.
When you select the dmg and click on toast it, it will toast the the dmg file as it would toast a jpg, the contents can be toasted the same way by mounting the dmg then selcting the items and then toasting them to the disk
Yes, ive used toasting for burning, i know, it sound cooler

A much easier way of burning an image file is to open 'Disk Utility' and choose "Image>Burn...". This will be sure to preserve any invisible files, boot info, etc.
Of course if the .dmg file is a small one that only contains an app and a Read Me, there is no need to do this; this method is more for boot disks, backup copies of CD's, etc.
