Aqua-Soft ForumsIs anyone seen this slick browser. I just saw the Beta on a MAC and it looks real nice. Anyone else seen it yet? It's plain looking but very appealing to the eye. Anyone gonna take a crack at this one?

I think you mean you saw it on a Mac. And yes i happen to have it, it's pretty quick. Not bloated like IE. I think it's based on mozilla. maybe someone can make a skin or something for it that resembles Safari?
Safari looks ... amazing!
Very clean and nice interface plus some very cool gimicks like download- and bookmarks-manager, Popup blocker, etc. Of course all done in the great iApp-Style. Good work Apple!

I'm sorry, but I don't see what the excitement is all about.
Opera v6.04 and v7.0 beta are already just as advanced and flexible.
If I'm missing something here, please fill me in.

Maybe it would look better with an aqua skin. Oh well, im a sucker for the blue.
You guys dont see the inovation in this; the simplicity. Its quantum leaps ahead of internet explorer. Theres not many gimmicks and bells and whistles, but it sure makes browsing the internet a whole lot easier. With the built-in ad blocking, and the simple user interface, I would choose this over any of those other browsers any day.
I've been a long time user of IE, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, MyIE, and Chimera and I must say that I'm extremely impressed with Safari. But then, Safari is only for OS X.

No, I don't see the innovation in Safari and I didn't mention IE.
I personally have not used IE in years, I can't stand the damn thing. My wife uses IE exclusively for her web browsing. When ever she is in the den with me, I hear a constant stream of complains about f**king IE this and f**king IE that. I've suggested that she try Opera, but she insist she's more comfortable with IE. I don't get it myself, but it is her choice.
In terms of Safari's simplicity, Opera can be setup to be as simple or as complex as one likes.
Also it has had built in pop up blocking for quite some time now. And it's one of the fastest, if not the fastest, web page renderer out for x86.
And Opera is still number 1 in terms of size. The entire download for it, excludng the Java package, is 3.4 mb.
Yes, I am a fan of Opera. I have been since I tried it back in the Win95 days and will remain so until I see another web browser that can truly compete with it.
So again, if I'm missing something here about Safari, please fill me in.
As it stands right now, I see Safari as just another browser.
Safari is up to 3 times faster in Java, Plug-in's and html loading than most ANY of the other browsers available for OS X.
Currently, it also has the smallest memory footprint and least wasted real-estate.
It has SnapBack. The SnapBack button returns you to the point where you last typed a URL or selected a bookmark.
Finally, it is integrated in the shell, using the same iApp engine.
Well after some digging it looks like Safari is based on Konqueror. A well known Unix based Broswer. I have been fooling around with Pheonix which has alot of the features that safari has and it is Skinnable.
It's based on Mozilla and uses the Gecko as it's engine.
Still the performance does not seem to be as good as what Safari runs.

I noticed that Opera is suspicionally absent from the Safari benchmarks presented on Apple's Safari home page.
The Snapback technology sounds interesting, but I'd have to check it out for myself before I'd comment on it.
Please all, I'm not saying that Safari is a bad program. I just don't see what the excitement is about. It's a web browser, there are tons of them out there.
Then again I have not used any OS X browsers, so I really have nothing to base my experience on.
Everybody pretty much knows that IE sucks, regardless of the platform. How Microsoft got it to be the de facto standard browser, I can't quite fathom.

Opera isn't free...
Also this allows Apple to get away from IE being the standard browser on thier Mac's.
Now they have not only thier own mail client, but thier own browser client.... It allows them to get out of licensing IE from M$. Which in turn opens the door for Marklar (codename for OSX x86) to actually be a reality. M$ could give Apple a great deal of crap if they released Marklar with IE, thus this allows Apple to release a competitive OS to windows, that has no M$ licensing issues.

Oh, just include it in your OS and then make your OS not work without it... really easy!
Also I think most people are too lazy to search for an alternative. I know I used to be
@ipodlover, that screenshot is of my mac and I have Safari installed.
The only thing I like about Safari is that it is FRIGGIN' FAST! And it allows any and all plugins to play perfectly (eg. mov, swf etc..). What more do I want?
Did I forget to mention that it was really fast?
PS: One more good thing. Macs always had a problem when scrolling webpages. Gone now 
PPS: They also had another prob of slightly delayed appearance of text after it is typed. Gone too
So basically, I love everything about it. Not to mention its an iApp..

lol! I tell ya itsa buncha fun using my Mac. But unlike most ppl, I haven't totally neglected my PC. Both have their own good points.
Anyway, updates screenshot of Safari. Just installed OS X 10.2.3, so this is the new iApp appearance.

I'm sorry, but there are three ways to run Opera.
From the Opera help file, quoted without permission:
"The free version of Opera comes with a banner ad. You have three options:
Run the free version with a generic selection of ads
Run the free version with ads that fit your interests
Pay for a license in order to run a registered version without ads."
So there is a *free* version of Opera if one is willing to tolerate ads.
Now the point about Apple getting away from IE is a good thing.
I am not a Mac user, I just like the Aqua interface, but if I were, getting away from anything with Microsoft's brand with be important to me.
I am happy for the all Mac users here and elsewhere, because of all the new annoucments that came out of MacWorld.
If I were a Mac user, I'd be quite excited right now!
As a side note, that new 17" PowerBook looks fantastic!

Personaly, im a mozilla user. It does everything Safari, Opera and the others can do, and IMHO , its faster. Plus Mozilla can be skinned to look like Safari (if i wanted to). I know Opera can do the same.
Down with Safari!!! (just kidding, please dont hang me).
I still dont like the interface, but its integration is great. Have fun surfing!
Safari is still in beta so good things are coming their way. So for those able to use Safari and notice bugs, please report them by clicking on the the bug report button on its upper right side.
So now Apple has a web browser (Safari) and a presentation software (Keynote). I can't wait for the next set of iApps that will cover the remaining M$ Office equivalents.
Oh yeah, I'm saving up for that "ultimate" 17" powerbook.
