i strongly agree with much of what's being said lately, there is too much garbage being thrown out for everyone to see. but maybe a solution can be found too...
perhaps (if feasible within the framework of the board), have a user option to indicate what forums you do want to be made visible to you. e.g. when i go on to A-S, i always click on 'view new posts' first. and i'm sure a strong majority do as well. is there a way to make it that when i click on that button, it will only show me new posts for the x, y, and z forums and not a, b, and c? this way, if you're a user who does not want to get tied up having to move your way through the 'let's have a virtual snowball fight' and 'coke, pepsi, or RC' polls, then you can always turn it off (or back on if you choose). or if you don't care what wallpapers are coming out, uncheck that one. i'm sure there are some people who are here for just the v.s. and not the media player info or don't give a rats ass about samurize. uncheck em!! (legal notice-this is not a disendorsement for wallpapers, media players or samurize

i can say whole-heartedly that when i first came here (which i still can't even remember how i first stumbled on it), i was flabbergasted at the talent i saw... i was able to suit my system to how i wanted it to, and try to answer some computing questions when i could. after that, what else is there? my v.s. is complete, the apps i like are installed and look the way i want them to. i still come everyday to look around and see if anything has been updated (e.g. itunes plugins)....
and along the way, though, i became interested in some of my fellow nerds here. who are they? where do they live? how is it that someone in croatia is interested in exactly the same thing i am? friendships were made... for christs sake, i got a christmas email card from Pe7er in Poland (sure i'm jewish, but that's not the point :Jewish: ) 1/2 way around the globe... is it conceivable to take all of these people and bring them to another forum just to chat, sure, but then while we're there, the topic of aqua would come up.. . then we'll just have 2 boards with the same people talking about crap and aqua!! plus, i wouldn't want to take it all to pm's, because it's a forum, the collective feedback is what's inticing to come here for.
i don't want to see some of the stuff here either, but topics that get to share more personal information i am interested in. why do we need to be just a faceless username and an avatar?
i just read that there's a new system implemented of suspending/banning for the spamming few. hopefully, this will put a dent in the floodgates, but that's still a manual process, it still requires a physical moderator to oversee it. a more automatic solution would end a lot of the irritation and abandoment of this community.
admins/mods, please take my words into consideration, and if necessary, then delete this post.
