[link]useful Info For Potential Longhorn Skinners

If you're thinking of skinning Longhorn, or even writing your own apps in longhorn then look at this:

Gel Cap Buttons

It's a Longhorn tutorial on how to rebuild the buttons used by windows using Longhorn's Avalon system. I bet you've seen similar buttons before haven't you. :)

why would you want to skin an OS that's still in Alpha stages and isn't ready for daily usage?? I mean not even Aero is included in these leaked builds.... <_

Keep in mind that Codename Longhorn is still 3 to 5 years off. They haven't even settled on the new type of file system they are going to add in the OS.

Although vectors are the in thing and everyone thinks they are so cool, I wonder if you could do things like brushed metal with it. I don't see a lot of vector art that has texture like that. Those gel buttons don't look as good as raster gel buttons either, IMO. Though they do resize well when small. However, OSX renders raster buttons small well.

Actually, I think you'll find that aero is included in longhorn 4051.

You just have to create your own application to use it. Hence why all these tutorials keep popping up as to how to implement it.

explorer hasn't been rewritten in Avalon yet, it's still the old explorer using a new titlebar and support for WinFS (the File system they are using in Longhorn).

Some people seem to know nothing and yet reply as though they do. Go here to read about the REAL developements in Longhorn:
