Buy My Ibook!

Ok, Timan recommended I post this here, because he said a lot of you want a Mac, so here goes:

I'm looking to upgrade to a nice shiny PowerBook from my iBook G3. It's been a trusty little machine so far, but I've got the money to upgrade, and I'm ready to go. So, here's what I've got to offer:

-iBook G3 900Mhz

-640MB RAM

-Combo Drive (DVD/CD-RW)

-40GB HD

-12" Screen

-Airport card included (802.11b) (Y)

-Bluetooth Adapter

I bought it this October, and have found great utility in it with the wireless card. I take it with me to every class and love it. The condition is very good, with no major scratches. Most of the time it's been transported in my laptop bag, and it's been treated with love and care. I've also got the original Styrafoam packaging, for secure shipping. I just don't have the box, but manuals and restore CDs are included.

Here's a crappy pic taken with my cellphone (sent to the computer with bluetooth ;) ): http://www.timdorr.com/pictures/ibook.jpg

I'll try to get something higher quality. Here's Apple's tech specs PDF: http://manuals.info.apple.com/Apple_Suppor.../L27500A_EN.pdf

I've got 10.3.2 loaded up on it, but I'd prefer to wipe it before sending it out. Ideally, I'd like to format and load it up to your software specifications. I'm running of a friend's copy of Panther (its the 5 license version, so it's legit), and I can throw in a burn of it, if you'd like. I'll include the Jaguar discs that came with it, but you'll probably want Panther ;)

As for credibility, I've got eBay:

http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?...&userid=timdorr

I've also done a fair ammount of trading on GameTZ.com:

http://gametz.com/usertab/timdorr/tab/Ratings.html

Plus, I sure a bunch of you know me as a Mod on neowin.net, so that can vouch for me too. I'm not going to screw someone and get away with it, there's too much respect to lose.

As for price, I'm hoping to get $900-$1000 for it. That's factoring in the fact it's $899 refurbished from Apple, includes a $105-$150 512MB RAM upgrade, an $80 Airport Card, and $25 bluetooth dongle. So, if you bought this thing with a refurb system, it'd cost you $1125. Quite a steal, plus you don't get all this Mac ware.....software. :master_ninja:

You can IM on MSN as timdorr@hotmail.com or on AIM as ASmallOrange. Email addy is timdorr@timdor.com (add an extra r on timdor).

Hope someone can help me on my quest for PowerBook-age :)

Lé bump!

The price is right but the screen is too tiny for me >.

My dad may buy it from you, gotta consult him first...But, just in case, don't count on it.

#106232

Well, the thing is, if you go to the 14" model, the res is the exact same. You just get bigger pixels. It's really just a larger heavier version of the same thing :S

Any response from your dad? :)

#106925

tempting, just cause the dollars worth nothing at the moment

would you ship to England?

#106932

:(, wish i had a thousand bucks to spare.

#106933

Sorry, but we can buy a new G4 with maxed RAM from Apple for another $200.

#106935

No you can't it will be more like 400 more.

#106949

And you can get this thing for $900 refurbed from apple.

BUT it doesn't include the Ram, Airport, or Bluetooth adapter. Nor does it include The timdorr Touch™ :P

#107035

Er... according to the Apple.com US store, 30Gb drive, minus Bluetooth and Airport... cost is.... $1,249

edit::: ahh, saw your new post after I posted, Timdorr.... anyway good luck with your sale.

#107036

What?? From Apple:

iBook 900MHzG3/128MB/40GB/COMBO/E/56K/12.1TFT $899.00

I'm offering for $950.

So, for $50, you get $125 worth of RAM, a $75 AP card, and $35 Bluetooth adpater. So that's, in total, $1135. What exactly is your point?

Edit: OK, just making sure I wasn't going crazy :D

#107037

If nobody buys it from you after January, I'll probably buy it from you. Gotta convince my dad tho

#107157

ship to UK?

I could probably do that. We'd have to work out some sort of shipping cost arrangement, but I'm pretty sure it would be doable.

Sorry I missed you post earlier :)

#107195

sorry, just in case you were expecting a reply, just thought i'd say, i'm going to hold on for when a g5 powerbook comes out

waiting... waiting....... ><

#107882

yeah, i'm waiting for a g5 powerbook too

maybe the athlon64fx will come out for the notebook before then too

#107933

You *do* realize it's going to take at least 6-12 months before it comes out, right? They just got the processors down to a *barely* reasonable heat output when the CPU is clocked down to like 1.2Ghz (meaning, it's not that much faster than the current PB's). You won't see those until Fall, at the earliest.

#107971

It'll be almost 3 years before I can get a new computer >.

#107972

I'm sorry... but isn't that iBook a G4 model? The G3's didn't come in the new iBook's shell.

And that's one hell of an offer. I would have considered it before I got my iBook G4 1Ghz 256Mb 60GBHDD 14.1" in Argentina... The only official distributor in this country is a place called Maxim Store, and this iBook costs around 2500 USD... *feels so stupid*

The only difference between this iBook and the G4 iBook's shell is that the CD drive is slot loading versus tray loading.

First of all, I know a guy that works for Apple. He said they have no plans on releasing a G5 version of their notebooks anytime soon.

Second of all, there already is a laptop with a 64 bit athlon in it. It's made by e-Machines.
