I'm Very Lost

Hi all. i'm EXTREMELY new to the board. I was wondering how I start skinning my windows to look like a mac? With the 'finder' and address book, with the 'colored' 3 buttons on the left...could someone please help?

#101975

For the skins:

Pre XP - WindowBlinds

XP - Style XP

They are shareware (try it and buy it), or by means which are not allowed to talk about here.

Finder, 2 ways:

Look for a program called Y'z Toolbar and it converts the toolbar in explorer to look like Mac.

Get a program to emulate Finder, there are a few, I can't think of the names. Remembered: Felix

Address Book:

Search for Address Book on these forums and you'll find a perfect clone.

Most of the stuff that you are looking for can be found in the Search feature (in the "toolbar" area of the page). People will get angry if you post topics that can be answered by searching first.

If anything that I explained here does not make sense, it has been discussed numberous times, use the search. Don't forget to change the time frame from Past 30 Days to Anytime and After to Before to get all topics.

Edit: Clarification

this thread was designed for you: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?s...hl=list+of+mods

skinning windows: use the uxtheme patch to avoid buying shareware.

if you want the buttons on the left, you have several options.

1. use shellwm

2. use windowblinds (shareware)

#101981

Yeah, dreamz' (should I use "'s"?) has a better post. I totally forgot about the uxtheme patch. :shy:

#101986

OSX-e has a lot of apps, you can get felix and savanna here :woot: (go alang (Y) )

I didn't catch it until I read it just now. I mean dreamz' post. But the... arg, I mean it would... I'm confused.

This was just to have closure to my segment, otherwise it would be weird.

Good luck UPallnight!

isn't Y'z Dock the same as ObjectDock in WindowBlinds4?

windowblinds is the program that skins your desktop. is objectdock part of windowblinds? they're made by the same company, but i didn't know they were bundled.

in any case, objectdock and y'z dock (and mobydock) are docks, which is the strip of icons that magnify during mouseovers. there are subtle differences, but unfortunately, y'z dock is no longer in development and distribution is not allowed.

but its still the best one, and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I use it

;)

#102015

Warm and Fuzzy???..... -_-

Anyway, remember to get Flykites System Files, they are very good

And I just noticed that there are programs with my name O_o

#102130

felix:

what is flykite?

#102331

Flyakite is amember here that has made a fantasic mod that will change all the icons, avi's and such to make your Windows machine look like a Mac. Search for Flyakite's System Files, or something like that. It is a heafty download though, around a hundred megabytes.

#102334

So is his bundle all I would need or should I apply more applications, skins, etc?

#102343

All his thing includes is system files (thats actually a lot)

TD Panther 4.0 is the best VS ("skin") if you're looking to strictly emulate Panther

Some ported Mac themes to msstyles:

  • Snow Panther by StefanKa
  • anything from KoL's site (Aluminum Alloy, Milk Redux, iTunes...)
  • Playboy's GuiPod

#102353

It fairly much changes the look of the default window interface. Which means windows no longer starts up looking ugly again. :6

However, it doesn't imply that you don't need additional skin files. It just means that without the skins, windows is no longer as :puke: as before. ;)

Keith is right. There are many ways to emulate the Mac look. Try around. The programs available gives you more flexibility in getting what you want. The transformation packs are something more permanent.

Hope that helps. ^_^

#102359

it does, silencedge - thank you very much ;)

#102369

You're most welcome. ^_^

And welcome to A-S! :who's your daddy:

Whoops. Honest error.

#102375

Ok. We really need a wiki for A-S. -_-

There are two main theme managers:

Windowblinds

-Many features

-Limited trial version

-Not as many mac-related styles, usually themes are ported to msstyle first (stylexp)

StyleXP

-Not as many features as windowblinds, more simple

-Limited trial version

-More themes, easier to find

I use stylexp

DOCKS

Yz's

-Developement was discontinued, still very possible to find on the internet

-The best emulation of the mac OSX dock, period

-Smoothest motion, lowest (maybe) system resource usage

-Lots of great docklets over at http://www.dockex.com/

-FREE

Objectdock

-Not free, trial version is available

-Pretty smooth, can be used as a "task bar" since windows minimize to it

-Docklets can be found but are not as many as yz's

Then there is mobydock, which I know nothing about. I have heard its the smoothest, but the rendering on the icons plain sucks (the icons are blurry and indistinct). There are no docklets for mobydock.

Themes and Themers: (No Particular order)

TD 4 by Threedrives

-Pretty much 1:1 with OSX 10.3

-Can be found on these boards

That probably gives you a good enough idea

Threedrives is a veteran themer and has a good reputation here

Stefanka and his PantherS theme

-Not based on any theme other than panther, but done all in black white and silver

-Can be found on these boards

Stefanka is new to theming but has major skill

KoL and his mad amounts of themes

-Can be found at http://studiotwentyeight.com/

I think KoL has made more themes than anyone on these boards (please correct me if I am wrong) He is usually the first one to port the newest visual style for Macs

Crni and his objectbar skills

-Makes 1:1 ports for objectbar

-Master at a very neat program called samurize. Does lots of ports from konfabulator.

Check out his website right here.

His work can be found on these boards as well.

Programmers and Script writers (No Particular order)

Judge

-Made the desktopweatherXML script and config for samurize, posts on these boards

Tadis

-Has helped me multiple times with my samurize configs, very good at writing .vbs scripts for doing things like ejecting cds and killing programs

Alilm

-15 year old from Brighton, UK. Amazing at programming applications

-Website is here

--Currently working on a iMail clone, a Safari clone and more

Jib

-Wrote the famous address book clone, very nice program, can be found on these boards

-Is working on a safari clone with Pixelmatrix

Pixelmatrix

-Working on a safari clone with jib

Siwu

-Creator of iex, a port of exposé

-Creator of iblend

--Currently rewriting iex, its looking very good ;)

All his work can be found on these boards

Enhanced

-Creator of Splash Panel

-Has his own website, very professional! Right here!

-Working on an amazing app called ePortal

Pogz

-Creator of 3r-1c, a program that emulates the volume up/down bezel in OSX

-Website here

I know I left out many people, please feel free to add your own posts to the list

#102393

WOW. :blink::blink::blink:

Extensive list. I'm impressed.

its not that Mobydock's icon rendering sucks, thats how it was made, we have all been through this many and many of times, but the real dock has a tiny bit of this blur rendering on them, some people can notice it some cannot, on mobydock sometimes it turns out too blurry on someones graphics acard, but turns out perfectly and gives a nice effect on other people

so it all depoends

i love it personally

You forgot Playboy and his famous GuiPod! Duh! :banging:

also: who needs StyleXP when you can use the Replacer cmd script to replace the original uxtheme.dll in %root%:\%windir%\system32\ with modded uxtheme.dll (so that you can use visual styles (mssyles))

but anyway...whoa! Pin me! (pin that exhaustive list)
