How About Opening A Music Thread?

I`ve been thinking about how more fun things could be if there was a Music thread on AS. Don`t get me wrong, i don`t want a thread about music piracy. I would like a thread where we could chat about music (we all like some kind of music don`t we?) artists and bands we like (especially cause i see more than few musicians on our boards - godpunk for example) and all other music related stuff. A thread about music where we won`t have to be afraid of Duckie deleting our threads and where we won`t be going off topic and ruining the forums policies. This would go well with the "expansion" idea Tim has for AS. So how about it?

The thing is you would probably need an off-site (non-A-S) host. Music can take up alot of room. MIDI would not, but it's MIDI. And with the release of iGarage (sue me), music authoring will be on the rise. To how much, I do not know.

The big problem with a music thread is that it's bound to attract countless flame wars.

I, for one, am very passionate about music, and when someone outright "bashes" my tastes, I get very defensive and agressive.

Also, as Photo intimated, if we add music, why not film, TV, photography, radio, etc.?

a music forum would rock, but i imagine that a lot of people would be just like stevie in that they would become very mad when people say bad stuff about their favorite band/musician. but it would be fun to try

OK, first thing's first- what is being discussed is a Music Forum, not a Music Thread. There is a difference between the two, and it's big.

Anyways, perhaps a better idea would be an iLife forum (i.e. Aqua-Soft Boards ->iLife -> Garage Band)- that way people can post the creations they've made in the respective iLife apps, as well as get technical questions answered.

General Discussion would be the appropriate place for a "Favorite Bands" thread, while the iLife ->Garage Band forum would be the appropriate place to post "New Album Release by Godpunk". In other words, the iLife forum would be strictly for posting creations made with iLife, or for having questions about iLife answered, not for discussing music, movies, or photography in general.

However, all this depends on just how much Timmie feels like expanding the forums.

And for those of you without iLife- you could post ONLY applicable creations (i.e., songs made with Acid might be able to be posted in GarageBand), but it wouldn't be a place to discuss music, movies, or photography in general.

To be honest, though, how likely are people to distribute anything they made in iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, or iTunes? iPhoto I can just about understand, but how can you "make" anything (aside from playlists) in iTunes, and iDVD and iMovie? Can you really see people sharing DVD setups and small home-movies?

It's a good idea, in principal, but I just can't see that anything other than GarageBand will get much use aside from Q&A, which, let's be honest, the iLife apps don't need much of - they're pretty easy to use as-is.

Point taken, but I think an iLife forum would get a lot of use. Just my personal opinion here. Maybe a trial run would be appropriate? That way Tim can take the forum down if it ends up being barren and neglected.

See I do not want to name those forums based off the apps because then people will think thats what the are for...

Pictures forum people can post graphic creations and junk...

Movies would be movies people made or a funny paraody of something on the web they link it up in here.

Music would be for people who like to create it with say garageband, post about their favorite music (stuff stevie will not like )
