Buying An Ipod

Hi! I have some questions regarding the Apple iPod 15 GB. I am a bit confused right now, because i have read so many things about how i can connect it to my PC. I think i am goig to buy the cheapest one, iPod 15 GB, but do i need a dock to connect it to my pc? Before Christmas, i saw that it was possible to buy an extra iPod USB 2.0 cable, so i could connect through that, but know, it is not possible anymore. Do i have to buy a Dock? Or can i use the Pc FireWire Adapter that comes with the iPod, and the FireWire cable? I do not have a FireWire card right now, so do i need to buy it separatly?

Please help me, i am so confused right now :)

You can just buy the USB 2.0 ipod cable from apple.com. You do not need the dock. Also you can just add a regular firewire pci card to your pc and use the firewire cable which comes with the ipod.

No reason to be confused.

You dont need a dock to connect it, just us the firewire cable and buy yourself a nice firewire card.

A dock looks cool on your desk though...

Easy as that, bye now!

Forget the cable, get a firewire card. Thats what I did.

But what is the PC FireWire adapter then? My english isnt of the best, and that makes it a bit hard to understand :shy:

I got mine for $8 on eBay and it works just fine. ;)

#101655

it comes with a firewire cable

#101656

But what is the PC FireWire adapter then?

Its a card that you connect to your motherboard just liek a modem or sny other PCI cards and gives you a firewire connection.

I fyou dont know how to install it or don have anyone who could then go for the USB cable...

the better sound cards (Audigy (2) what else is there?) have Firewire

#101660

well thats just a little bit more expensive than getting a firewire card, but if you do have an audigy z2 or something, youre sorted...

When do those babies start shipping? 16 feb right?

The minis start shipping on Feb 16th, but I believe the 15 GB iPods are availible now.

Ok, so in addition to the FireWire cable and the PC FireWire adapter that allready comes with the iPod, i need a FireWire card? Because to me, the PC FireWire adapter sounds like a FireWire card, but then again, my english is not the very best :P

I just Got My Audigy 2 Platinum a few weeks ago!

I was going to get a firewire card for my new ipod but I decided to get the audigy and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Not to mention it sounds great! :D

i should have quoted it, he was not offtopic nor was he inappropiate and specially not breaking the rules, there is no reason why his posts would be deleted, its a shame this still happens on a community like this.

Ok now im starting to understand things here :)

My question is now, can i buy a FireWire card from anywhere else than apple.com? It is so expencive there, and i can get a cheap one from an other place. I read that some people have problems syncing their iPods on some FireWire-cards. Will that be a problem if i buy a card that is not yet tested?
