edit: done installing and on linux :)

#99212

Theres no such thing as Gentoo Linux  Im so in love

#99325

Redhat 9.0!!! But not KDE! I always use GNOME!!!

#99336

I'm just downloading Fedora now.

Never installed Linux before, but it looks fairly easy. Decided to install it on my spare HDD because I have to use it at uni for programming, so it makes it easier to use the same OS at home.

#99345

Fedora, Fedora, Fed-o-rah! Doesn't it just roll of your tongue? ;)

#99360

I just downloaded "Phlak" but have not had a chance to really play with it yet. The Screen Savers on TechTV did a little blurb about it. It boot entirely from CD so there is no installation. I don't know all that you can and can not do with it but it's perfect for me because I am really just figuring out what linux is and does. Check it out at Phlack.com

Anyone know any other bootable versions of linux?

#99365

Other bootable versions of Linux include Knoppix and a new one that Mandrake made, i forget is name. But both of those distros I have mentioned use no HD and completely boot from CD. Theres also a Linux on a Floppy that you can download somewhere but its essentially just the kernel, no GUI.

#99381

gentoo!

#99397

I have only used SuSE so I'll go with that. I have been hearing many good things about Fedora, I'll have to check it out.

@ Spyder - The link should be phlak.org.

Gotta get a slackware based.... College Linux for me...

#99513

Isn't Slack live CD, a bootable linux too? I used a couple linuxs but fedoras has been the best desktop replacement out of all of the linuxs i've tried. Gentoos got the specific to your system super compile installtion thingi, but whenever you want to install something it takes so long. I want Fedora 2.

#99540

:woot: Unix with Aqua on it! (Osx) :woot:

#99559

but thats not Linux hehehe! and mac os X is based off a bsd kernel a "clone" of unix, but not unix

Nvidia has official drivers, just download them.

#99666

B3nd1k, I totally agree!

Why can't you add Gentoo Linux in the poll?

I've done that, but using the general rpm i get nothing, using the redhat 9 rpm i can see the card but not activate it, and using the .tar, when I run make it throws up loads of errors :(
