Creo Tokens!

It's a cross-platform product, but I'm posting this here since I read about it in a Mac magazine. >.<

I've came across this wonderful innovation when I was reading Macworld. It's called Creo Tokens and can be really useful when you are intending to share files of say, 30MB.

Most emails don't allow attachments of that size, and consider someone downloading such sized attachments to their accounts... :blink:

How this works is, instead of sending the actual file, it sends a token. Tokens are only a few KB, therefore there is no unnecessary disk space being taken up on your servers when you send a token. A creator window is packaged with the software, which is used to create tokens. This automatically compresses, encrypts and copies the source file to create a token bundle that contains a decryption key. This bundle is stored on your local machine or stored on a Tokens Server. When your recipient receives the token, they can access the files referenced by the token with the free Token Redeemer. :lol:

What's better, is that the user can define how long the token is valid for, which provides the sender with a certain degree of security. In addition, this is a cross platform product, accessible to both Mac and Windows users. 5GB of relay storage is bundled monthly when you purchase this application. 50GB is available for the server version.

Then you've got the same problem of sending part one, waiting for person to save and delete, send part two, wait until person saves and deletes email, etc etc. And don't even suggest using an IM. If your transferring to/from 56k your almost guarenteed to have it fudge up before 10mb is done.

This sounds like a good and secure way of allowing people to download something under your control. Cheers for the link Alex!

then how about downloading and installing cererbrus ftp and run your box as a server and have people download from you that way.

I'm not trying to be a "Johnson" or anything, it's just that I have been dealing with large files for a while and found alternative free solutions.

All and all its a good idea, just not something I could ever see using.

The advantage in using this is that not much prior computing knowledge is required. It's fairly much just click, drop and send the mail... after which one just has to leave the system on and wait for the token to be redeemed. That's all.

Anyway, thanks for suggesting alternatives. I'm sure we could all do with more ideas.
