Your Top Favorite Mac Apps

I just started using a mac and heres some that I ran into that i find helps me

Dockyard - Allows you to switch betten multi docks and dashboards(freeware)

TigerLaunch - Lists all the applications in your applications folder(you can disable the applications you don't want to show)(freeware)

tinkertool - Access hidden settings in OSX(freeware)

Dockless - allows you to remove certain icons from the dock(freeware)

thats all ive found so far that i haven't seen listed here.

also is there any way to stop the dock from always being on top(but without hiding it)?

TransparentDock can deal with that

What is macos****tail for? And whatabout Sherlock?

#399963

Check it out at: http://www.maintain.se/****tail/

Google holds all the answers all you do is type..even the answer to life the universe and everything ;)

#399964

C0cktail is a system maintainence app along with some hidden OS X settings.

Sherlock is pretty much useless, its pretty much google search, stocks, and phone book in one. Dashboard widgets make it usesless!

#400048

Onyx is just as good as ****tail, except not as pretty.

It's free though.

AppZapper - The complete app unistaller (makes sure the app and all of its files are all gone!)

Deskshade - Hides your messy desktop away! - Great effects too!

CastLife - Get your RSS feeds up and running fast!

iWallet - Great Personal Information Organizer!

iClip - Clips your extra stuff!

Oh, and you cannot forget about Adobe Studio 8 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 (Especially Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2)!

Anyone know of a great terminal emulator program? I need one that can access serial ports (using one of those usb>serial convertors) - I do alot of programming equipment that use vt100, etc. - also if the program could also handle telnet and ssh that would be great. Used on XP for years called Smarterm - really want to find a mac os equal. Look on version tracker and most of those listed are worthless.

#422939

My favourite are:

TextMate

Transmit

Adium

I'm a new Mac user, so I haven't discovered many applications yet :)

#422961

Safari

iStumbler

iTunes

Automator

Mactracker

Toast

X11

BBedit

I find it really interesting that nobody has mentioned the iLife/iWork Packages

#438278

TextMate, Newsfire, CSSEdit, Twitterific

#439355

i'm a recent convertor also and finding my way in OSX.

can't surf around without Inquisitor anymore.

Inquisitor 3 is a plugin for Safari. it's pretty much like spotlight but for the internet.

#442713

I don't own one, but the most useful app is...(drumroll)...Finder! Duh.

#442737

browser = Safari

email = GMail (I can't be bothered to use Apple Mail. It's a great app, I just like using the GMail interface.)

music = iTunes (duh)

icons = I actually don't tweak my icons... much. If I do, I manually edit them.

themes = Shapeshifter

app removal = Trash? I haven't really had to get rid of anything. The only things I've gotten rid of were tiny apps that I never used.

image converter = Photoshop (w00t)

movies/videos = Front Row (Hey, why not?) or QuickTime.

chat = Proteus

p2p = LimeWire

torrents = xTorrent

And what's that ****tail program? Alls I see is stars.

#443683

For the name of the ****tail program. Begin with C, end with Tail, and put Ock in the middle.

keeping with an ontopic theme.

Transmission for torrents.

Foobar2000 for music.

Saf..Fi. whatever I feel like for browser.

FFview or pornograph for comic/manga viewing.

The Unarchiver for zips/rars/7zips/whatever

#443684

The asterisks are bypass for the name of it (it's c0cktail = with the zero as a letter O)

While we on it, can anyone suggest a great backup app for Mac?

#443689

I don't own one, but the most useful app is...(drumroll)...Finder! Duh.
