Image Thumbnails On The Desktop

If you have object desktop you can download a new version of DesktopX that has thumbnails for images that you have on the desktop. If the image is a png that has a alpha channell it will show up with the alpha channell.

Here's the feature in action.

Looks pretty cool... ;)

But what's with the wallpaper though?

 Rather cute.

Just curious, what would people do with a desktop object like this?

Thanks :D

The wallpaper is a Gackt one, they are a japanese group. I thought it was pretty cool.

This is not a object, it's a IconX feature. One thing it's good for is that if you temporary have images on your desktop they show up as thumbnails rather than the image type icon. OSX and other desktops like Gnome on unix have this feature.

Thanks Smoke.

That's pretty cool. Now, it's a rather stunning difference between Mac and Windows isn't it? At least Mac don't need 3rd party applications to give that function!

Apple...

Longhorn has it too but it's about 2 years away. So this is the only way that I know of at the moment to have it this way on windows right now. Unless you have a *cough* borrowed copy of Longhorn.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention there is one problem with the OSX implementation of this feature. The finder is carbon, so it doesn't support the alpha in png. It might have been changed in Panther but not sure.

Hey smoke, that's actually one person, Gackt was part of a group, but went solo.

actually now there is even a better option then that. you can create objects out of jpgs. The best way is to create another object. You set it as a drag/drop layer. then you can drag the jpg onto it and it will give you the option to create a new layer based of the jpg.

or you can just create a new object and change its image to the jpg. pretty slick.

I believe that Martin has made a set of dx objects that act like pictures. with the pictureframes and all. there is a little button on the edge that once pushed will let you select another picture to put in the frame. I for one don't like the frame so I just create new objects with the images.

now once you have the object as an image you can do all sorts of fun stuff with it: rotate it, change its size, change its color, give it a shadow, make it move. You just gotta know how.

ps I like desktopx. :)
