That's it. Booo! I can't stop booing, I need help. Boo!! Disappointing keynote. 20th anniversary of the Macintosh apparently. I can't believe "Just-one-more-thing" is the colored iPod mini! Gahh!
and they trying to charge $249 for the 4gig ipod, when for 50 dollars more you got 15 gig now.. what a joke..
yeah $250 for the 4 GB iPod is WAY WAY WAY too high if they are trying to expand this product to "new" markets. Like Grand_Masta said, anyone in their right mind would spend $50 more and get the 15GB for $299.

Do you think it's the sort of think where they will realise the error of their ways and correct it, or do you think that the whole mini iPod idea will just fall flat on it's face?
agreed. Below my expectations.
However we gotta give it up for them - they make both immersive hardware and software all together in a pace no other company makes. I truly believe that with their top notch inovations we shoulnt really get too spoild, as much as I had a disapointment.
Reason its 250 so people will say hey 50$ more i can get a 15gb ipod, it will boost those sales up BIG TIME
The iPod mini does seem pretty interesting, I'm more interested in size rather than storage space, 4GB is more than enough for me. I just have a question: can an iPod be used as an external hard-disk on Windows machines as well, or only on Macs?

The point, though, is that they're aiming at a different market.
They're aiming the iPod mini at the sort of people who'd buy a $200 player with 256Mb or RAM. What you also forget is that, compared to those, $50 is very little to ask for the extras that you get with the mini...
Keep things in perspective for the marketplace, guys

Maybe for those who don't have a use for 15GB of hard drive space, but want more than a 256MB Flash card can hold. You guys are looking at this from the wrong side of the fence. For a casual music listener who just wants enough music for a road trip or a day out, this is perfect, and at just $50 more than what's availible to them now, it's not a bad deal. Face it, not everyone is a music buff who has 15GB of music. This thing is in no way gonna fall flat on it's face.
As for GarageBand, it is exactly what I was hoping for and more- a music app combining loops, live recording, and MIDI, and all for $49. For this app (plus the 3000 loops, the MIDI instruments, and the guitar amps), this is a spectacular deal. Take it from a musician, you will not find a better buy.
I felt the keynote was great. Yes, the iPod minis were a little more expensive than I'd hoped, but let's face it- the technology is not quite that affordable yet.

I think there are cheaper 256MB flash player, below $200. I would rather get the 15Gb, honestly. $50 for an extra 11Gb. Oh and the iPod is still small enough for casual listeners. They may not need 15Gb, but why not just have it, it's only $50 extra.
The problem is all the rumors came true, nothing surprised me. You would think there's gonna be something big like last year (and it's the 20th anniversary), something out of the ordinary but no, they gave us nothing. Us as in potential switchers and windows users. I was all ready to switch if the new PBs come out. And the new iLife definitely didn't wow the windows crowd. Just improvements, faster scrolling, new transistions and feature. Nothing to get excited about.
iPod is old news. We've seen it, so there's smaller ones now, big deal. Xserves? I didn't even care. Regular consumers don't buy Xserves. Garageband, cool if I was a musician, or amateur musician. A nice toy to regular people, yes, a toy.
overall the new minis suite me perfectly. Immersive; Fashionably Compact and great capacity.

Look, there is no need to throw a hissy fit because they didn't release what you were hoping for. Apple can only put out so many products at a time.
You have to know something about product cycles to know why Apple released what they did today. iLife (with the exception of iTunes) hadn't been updated since last January, and Mac users were complaining. iPhoto and iMovie were so slow that I wanted to shoot myself. Also, the iPods hadn't been updated since April of '03, a good 8 months. The average product cycle for an Apple product is 5-6 months, and since the PB's were just updated in September, it was not their time, plain and simple. You have to update things in rotation, updating the oldest, and letting the younger products go a bit longer, It's the way things work. Give it some time, your new PB's will come.
As far as the 20th anniversary goes, we are only 6 days into the new year!. By my calculations, this leaves Apple 360 days (it's a leap year) to introduce a 20th anniversary Mac.

I completely understand and clearly see how Godpunk, stevie and whoever supported their side, make very good points. However, I strongly feel the same way nate represent it all.

I still love the new things (I'm above the average mac wanna-be's so Apple's innovations are always good for me) but I see this quote fit my feeling perfectly.

lol, as much as i agree with Nate, I agree with you too.
As i said earlier which supports your view, we shouldnt really get to spoild but appreciate the productivity of Apple®.
actually I take back one thing from my agreement with nate. I didnt expect anything new with the PB at all, but only with the G5s (which might be presented soon I believe).

Apple has discontinued selling the G3 iBooks all together.
You can only get G4 iBooks now.
Funny, you can still buy and old G4 desktop though.
And they finally dropped the price on the G4's too.
It was funny... for a while there it was cheaper to buy a new G5 than an older G4.
Definately a nice interface...never noticed the wood before!
I can't wait to use it! I think I am going to snag myself one of those cheap $100 USB keyboards Steve mentioned in the keynot...it'd go a long way towards helping me make music, especially with digital instruments as high quiality as those in the keynote.
