[help] Need Your Opinion On A Purchase.

Hello H2Oftians!

As you prolly know by now (mainly because i havent been able to keep my mouth shut about it) i got a Dual G5 . (my dream come true)

Now the next step is buy a decent lcd...

My budget is not generous after spending on the G5, so count with 800 to 1000 usd for your suggestions.

Ive looked at the 17'' Apple Cinema Display  and to This 19'' Sony LCD...

I am open to commetns, and opinons, please help me make a good buy.

-Seph

PS: Stevie has already suggested this horrible piece of technology waste but it is TOO expensive (wait till he gets two and bundles them on a frame together ;))

i don't see why you should get that sony widescreen... its the same as an apple 23", but costs 50% more.

the sony has a dvi port, but you're going to be using this screen with a mac right?

#95804

what models specifically?

#95805

do you do any print work from your computer? If so, stay away from lcds

Samsung makes some of the best TFT flat panel monitors out there.

The 172X-Silver is an awesome 17" TFT flat panel and runs about $500-$600 US.

The 192T-Silver 19" is about $650-$700 US.

And the 213T-Silver 21" is about $1100 US.

I know of two people that have got new G5 Dual 2Ghz macs and they both bought the Samsung TFT flat panels.

I think they look better than the Apple Cinima displays and they kick the crap out of Sony's flat panels.

My 2 cents

But do the have DVI connection or do i have to convert from analog to digital? that would suck...

I appreciatte your info guys, keep it comming!!!

i second samsung lcds. i have sony and samsung lcds. sony is a year and half old 15", not too great (higher models will look better but not worth the price). samsung lcds are great and at reasonable price too. i spent about $500 on samsung syncmaster 172w (17" widescreen). you can get the 18" for a hundred or two dollars more. i don't see any reason to get apple 17" cinema display (unless you like the look or something).

and samsung lcds should all have dvi (at least the newer models).

All the Samsung's I listed are digital monitors with DVI connections as well as VGA.

Trust me on this.... you'll love 'em.

ive bee browsing on samsun's site they look good!

I guess after having a not so pleasing experience with a 151t black i kinda ommited samsung off my shortlist

I'll check prices on those...

#95849

All the quotes I posted are from PriceWatch today.

I listed them out from high to low. Not too much info on the 21".

I could only find the one price. It was like $1,149.00, but I'm sure there must be a better deal out there.

I try and give complete info when I can.

Plus... I've been looking at these for a while.

I just can't decide which to get. :D

got redirected from here :P

if u hv the money, go with the 17" or 21" ACD. There is no other TFT I have ever seen that looked that good (both picture and the monitor itself). Almost wanted to lick it

Why would anyone want to pay a small fortune for a monitor that has a proprietary connection and is just a re-branded display made by another manufacturer.

I know Apple's CRT displays are made by Sony.

Not sure who makes the flat panels, but I know Apple doesn't make them, just the cases.

The Samsung TFT falt panles are way more clear and sharper then the Apple cinema displays.

One execption... the 23" widescreen HD display is better than the other cinema displays... funny thing though, the actual panel in the case is made by SAMSUNG!!!.

I think the panels in all the sub-23" Sony/Apple monitors are made (correct me if I'm wrong) by LG-Philips...

As for the 23" panels, yeah, they're Samsungs, and they're awesome.

Oh, and as for paying more for the Sony 23" compared to the Apple, does the Apple have 4 inputs? Does it have lots and lots of configuration logic required to allow it to look its best on as many machines as possible ('cos it has analog input)? Nope - it's got an ADC, and that's it. That's the reason it's cheaper than the Sony. It doesn't have the control or switching logic that the Sony has.

Oh, and it looks like a gumdrop, as opposed to a professional tool. Any CIO would be proud to own a Sony 23", but they'd be laughed off'f the board for an Apple, unless they were in a fancy-pants design house.
