Milk-xp.org.uk

Hey There All

I'm just posting here to let you know about a new site i've knocked up, dedicated to the Milk theme.

If any of you could recommend any information/downloads to be placed on the site, I would be very grateful. I would like to create a central place for lots of resources to be accessed from.

Comments and criticisms appreciated!

Very nicely done site.

Extremely coherent with the theme which you've dedicated to. ;)

Simply great.

However, for simpler viewing, how about using darker fonts? I've got to squint a little to make out the words, and much more for the small prints.

Regardless, a great site. :who's your daddy:

Do you have permission from KoL et al. to distribute their visual styles?

#95472

Very supercool! (Y)

Some observations & suggestions:

-in vs section add more descriptive screenshots or links for big ones;

-top tip thing is cool, but static. i see 'go to www.samurize.com' but i can't click it. it would be better if you added real links there;

-there's a link to a website about dllhacking - IMO it would be better if it opened in separate window (or tab);

-add default OSX cursors;

-sorry to say that, but the idea of forum about milk *only* isn't too good. It's too narrow besides there are SO MANY customizing sites...maybe offer your help to Timan?

-add iChat Hich - it's a very nice milky trillian skin, you can find it somewhere @ Aqua-Soft;

-in Credits section it should be 'variety', not 'vareity' ;)

Added to favourites. :lol::rolleyes:

WOW!!! and again WOW!!!!

Your site has a very nice design.....but then the content seems to be very limited due to you only focus on milk themes.......

My suggestion - why don't you focus on all aqua related stuffs panther themes, alluminium alloy...because I believe till now there is no site that offer a complete set of skins and icons for osx emulations......my site just focus on applications

Overheard at the Milk forum:

User A - I love Milk.

User B - Yeah, it :rule:

User A - It's so, um....

User B - .... milky.

User A - That's the god's honest truth.

Great and good-looking site. It so, um, milky ;) . More of this kind of thing would be wonderful. Alang has the right idea.

Also, adding to Pe7er's comment, get the Y'z toolbar theme up, too, and there are two nice Y'z dock backgrounds you need. PM me if you want them all in a zip. (Y)

Add RoberTO's theme for gtk / metacity. Thats like the best theme i've ever encountered, oh and remember to put what SP for icon / shell32 downloads, someone might totally screw their system over because they had the wrong SP.

#95516

I released another milk logonui back in april.

don't have it with me anymore thou.

Make sure you get permission for that first though.

#95548

Erm - Wow!!

Thanks very much guys (Y)

I'll have a mess around with the site, and try to take some of your suggestions into consideration. I'll let you know what i've added and changed later on today as a status report.

Just for the record, I have got permission for everything on the site, it took a while, but I managed to do it. Many of the downloads are simply links to other sites though, so I'm guessing that I don't need permission for those.

#95626

OK Then - Here goes:

1) I've darkened the fonts - Things are easier to read

2) Visual Style screenshots now open into larger images

3) Top Tip's have links

4) DLL site opens in new window

5) iChatHich added

6) I've linked to the GTK theme

7) Added a warning about shell32.dll versions

As far as other things go, do you think that there is an opening for a larger version of this site, which offers a central rescource for lots of different aqua-related themes?

If so, would any of you be willing to help me set one up by contributing content, links etc?

Finally, I think that the general impression I got was that there's no need for a forum. Do you think this would still be the case if the site was larger, and catered for more themes?

Thanks for your help - Look forward to hearing from any of you!

Cheers :D

#95659

Yup. ;)

The site is much better now!! And it really shows lots of promise! (Y)

I'm sure the community will be able to provide the contents, just ask! :smartass:

I'd help out wherever I can. >.<

Good luck, and once again, GREAT SITE! :woot:

#95689

OK Then - So we've come to the conclusion that the site should be expanded :naughty:

That poses two questions:

1) What should the larger site be called? (domain name ideas anyone?)

2) Should it keep the same "milk" design, even though it will cater for different themes?

Thanks

#95692

With regards to both your questions...

/me puts on thinking cap. :smartass:

(1) How about METAMORPHOSIS? It's about transforming the entire look of the desktop, precisely what the word means...

(2) As for the theme, I guess it's all up to you. :D Alternatively, you can make the site such that the user can change its theme as they like it to be. Just like A-S.

Just a little something which I thought of over breakfast.

#95699

Well, metamorphosis.org.uk is free - it's an option - Thanks (Y)

Anyone else got any advice/ideas regarding the name/theme issues?

Cheers

#95702

Excellent site :D

Damn. I had this exact idea quite a while ago. No, honest - check here. Development slowed because I had other projects, but I do have a design and a domain name ready ( the design is here - not much, but the feedback was good ) But now I see there is a demand for something like this, I'm more inclined to do some more work on it. What do you think? I need opinions!! :D

#95733

How do you fancy doing something in collaberation? - We could split the job of collecting info and links between us, and decide on some generic sections (like "themes", "skins", "wallpapers"), then make a different section for each theme. We could each take different themes to do?

i.e.

Main

> Milk

>> Themes

>> Wallpapers

>> Skins

>> Icons

> Smooth Stripes

>> Themes

>> Wallpapers

>> Skins

>> Icons

> GuiPod

>> Themes

>> Wallpapers

>> Skins

>> Icons

What do you think? - I could do a bit of PHP/MySQL coding if you want, and provide about 600mb bandwidth per month.

;)

#95735

Please god let it happen, please.

#95738

I like it. I like it a lot. We could do iCandy, and Cappuccino, and Shinobi, and all that. I'm liking this idea more and more. ;)

Anyway, should we keep my design, and the StyleSuites domain name, or do you want to go ahead and get the metamorphosis.org.uk domain name and use your design? I'm happy with either :)

#95740

Here's what I think we should do:

Keep your name - StyleSuites sounds great

> Does your host offer PHP/MySQL support? - If not, I have a reseller account with a lot of bandwidth and webspace at my disposal, it might be worth transferring it over?

Mix the two designs

> If you give me a couple of days, I'll try to knock something up

> Do you think it would be good to allow people to change the design to look like different themes, or is that something we could do in the future?

Get the site launched fairly soon, then try to expand it gradually

#95741

Wahey! :woot:

Yes, my host does offer PHP/MySQL, and says it supplied 6GB of bandwidth per month, though I have nothing to prove that - just what it says on their info page here. The site theme changing idea does sound good, and - forgive me if I'm wrong - can be achieved through CSS. But yeah, I think it's something we can do in the future.

#95744

Wow! - That's quite a claim - Well, it's best to leave the site in the same place for now then. I've done similar design changing things before, and I've found that the best way to do it is using different CSS sheets, and a cookie on the user's machine. Fairly simple stuff really.

Anyway - could you PM me with your email address, and I'll be able to contact you via that? - I'll have a mess around with the design, and when we come up with one we both like we can get started on adding content etc?

We'll be able to use PHP includes so that the navigation/header/footer etc is managed from an external file. Are you familiar with this (sorry if I'm being patronising).....

Thus the saga begins.........

:who's your daddy:

#95746

WOAH!!!

/me looking around to see if unbeliever is in sight :naughty:

Great idea!!! It's nice to see collaborations like these going on.

This is going to be something worth looking forward to! :woot:

Whoopee!!! :who's your daddy:

#95752

Dude, remember to get from Max the Milk folder icons. I think it's included in his ShapeShifter guikit.
