In fact don't even bother with partitions FULL STOP I was installing Linux Mandrake and so was creating a partition. Unfortunatly I shrunk the size for Windows instead of the size for Linux and so Win was left with a measly 1.2Gb to run on... (Try and run on that u b******! 
)
Eventually I ended up formatting my drive and I haven't re-installed Windows yet so I'm running on Linux Redhat 9.0.

I've never had any problems playing with partitions, and RAID arrays, and suchlike.
I think a better piece of advice would be "Anyone who thinks they know what they're doing with partitions, don't go any further until you're sure you've got nothing to lose on the entire physical drive that you're playing with." If the drive's got little on it that you're worried about (for example, I keep all my important stuff on a completely seperate drive from everything else, partitioned into 2Gb, 70Gb, and 28Gb for various types of data), then go ahead and play with partitions.
Just don't come crying to me if you mess up your Windows/Linux/MacOS installations.

I'm sure almost every software out there has their own form of corrupting any fully functional system somehow.

I've never had any problems partitioning, and i've installed windows a couple of times on my computer and linux a few too, but i end up not using linux because i dont have the time to learn how to do stuff in it.
I tried to install PGP and a Windows Update about 2 years ago. During the PGP install (after Windows Update with no restart), it froze, and my comp was dead. I had to do a reinstall and apparently it was at the certain stage and everything was lost.
don´t deisolate a pair of wires with yozur teeth, especially when they got 230 Volts to them.
Don't take your computer completely apart, clean off all the parts, and then put it back together. I did that to my computer, and now it won't do ANYTHING.
1) Hyperthreading is not an On-The-Fly option, DO NOT use it freely... if you want hyperthreading you better decide BEFORE installing Windows. It is a BIOS setting that must be changed, and if you enable HyperThreading without re-installing XP you will lose XP, HT is not a simple switch. Besides, HT is kinda played out anyways 
2) Dont just install it because it looks good, only use it if it has a functional value too it. I see all too often beautifuly desktops from people, but thats the only purpose it serves... contrary to some peoples beliefs, the Desktop was made for PRODUCTIVITY reasons and EASE OF USE, not for your eyes to look at and go "ouuu"... thats what a lava lamp is for...
3) Don't use Internet Explorer... I believe thats just a fair rule lol
4) If your Lite-On burner that has specs of 24x12x24 that came factory installed in a Dell Dimensions 4400 suddenly stops reading CD's, its time for a new burner. You can do what I am about to do tommrow which is buy a $60 52x24x52 Burner @ Best Buy with a $40 mail-in-rebate and SMART-BURN technology so you dont dork up your CD's.
5) (goes with # 4) Remeber that it goes Master THEN Slave... you know you screwed up if the BIOS hangs... Trial n Error my friends, Trial n Error... if all else fails, try the cable select jumper settings lol

Never use install RealOne Player (the ex-Realplayer?!). It will mess up your videocodecs & we wouldnt want that to happen.
Solution:
- use Real Alternative player instead
- keep away from RealOne player
Do NOT restart your computer durin a simple windows fix through the Win CD-ROM... I just got a black screen and nothing to do but - re-install...
Why I had the urge to hit that re-start button - I'll never know... my fingers were itching...

A sure way to reduce PC performance and make lots of stuff run badly or not at all is through the copious use of registry fixers and system tweakers. They all tell lies about what's safe or not to delete/change

Don't install Nforce2 drivers with the network cable plugged in. It crashes when it gets to the network driver install, and borks the gfx card drivers so every time you reboot it resets to 800x600.

When moving files from old pc to new DO NOT let anyone disturb you (even if you have made a list of very important files that you can't accept losing).
Well.. it goes like this - after you have formated the old pc's hd and noticed that one folder - the ONE folder (that had all your designs, projects that you have created in last 6 months) is lost forever.
I lost all of my music in the reformatting of my pc. I also lost some pr0n, I cried.

Its still there as long at you didnt do a reformat where it writes the whole drive to 0s or there arnt files already stored on top of them. Head over to http://www.acronis.com/products/recoveryexpert/ to get it back.

When having a motherboard with built-in videocard (which has the possibility to use system memory as videocard's memory) do not reconfigure from BIOS so that your built-in videocard uses 0 instead of 16 from ram (system memory) - after restart your vidocard will lose contact with reality and you can't see ANYTHING except some messed up blue and white stripes.Solution:

- Return the motherboard or computer to the store/ reseller & pay money to the queer personnel for repairing it somehow.
Some boards has clear CMOS feature by shorting the jumper, or you can remove the battery, wait for several seconds (30 secs) and reinstall the battery. Do it with power cord unplugged.
